Compensation Changes at B6

We were just informed of the following:

* An 8% base pay increase for pilots, effective January 2017.

* 10% profit sharing if the pretax margin is 18% or less.

* 10% of pre-tax profit up to 18% margins PLUS 20% of any profit above the 18% margin

* The number of holidays that will incur holiday pay will increase.

This is all outside negotiations (and done unilaterally), so I'm sure there will be things negotiated for the contract. ALPA was informed of this earlier today.

Finally, our profit sharing up till August 2016 will be 8%, payable in November.

Oh I'm all for it. No it doesn't cloud my view on what I want out of our first CBA. Nor do I think it's some roundabout way to impress a mediator down the road.

People get wrapped up about profit sharing without even realizing that we had virtually no say in what it was. We get all crazy over one year of 15%, like it's something written in stone that we have coming to us.

In all reality the profit sharing won't even be an issue as it'll be included in the CBA soon enough.

This is great news for jetBlue!

I had a question, I thought this kind of thing isn't allowed once ALPA is voted-in because of remaining in "status quo" until the first JCBA is negotiated?

It's a trap!

Union still has to agree to pay increase.

Why does the union have to agree to it? If the contract says I have to pay you $100 an hour, and I pay you $110 an hour, I am still in compliance with the contract, am I not?

Status quo can be changed if both parties agree to it.

You are actually not.

Same reason unions routinely contest (and win) new hire bonuses.

Our Alpa policy manual requires all Letters of Agreements that change pay to be ratified by the pilot group...........Voting is open......It'll easily pass.

Which half dozen aLPA regionals squashed new hire bonuses?

In my zero research today, most if not all regionals offer new hire bonuses as of today.

The RLA requires employers to bargain for issues regarding compensation.

I recognize that. But a contract details the minimum standard at which the parties must perform, yes? What's to prevent a party from going above and beyond the contract? Does labor law prohibit this?

None this time around, but last bonus round PSA, PDT, eagle and I think commute air all said no.

I'm failing to see the logic here.
Today, unions haven't been successful in shutting down bonuses, which violate CBA's?
