Med-Trans provides air medical services through the rapid transport of the critically ill and injured. Med-Tran, renowned for its state-of-the art helicopter equipment, has established itself as an industry leader in safe and successful missions. Our Communication Specialists receive critical medical helicopter transportation requests and relay that information to the helicopter crew serving the region. The candidates for this position must be able to work under pressure and remain calm. A higher than average attention to detail is required and the individual must be able to maintain sharp focus on all aircraft while in flight. Our Communication Specialists are responsible for demonstrating competencies in operating all radios, information systems, and any related equipment associated with the Air Medical Communications Center.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Acquire extensive knowledge and demonstrate application of policies, procedures, and protocols related to the Med-Trans flight program(s).
  • Acquire and demonstrate strong knowledge base and application of the Post Accident Incident Plans (PAIPs).
  • The Communication Specialist is expected to have knowledge of applicable sections of the Federal Aviation Administration regulations including Operational Control procedures.
  • Comply with FCC regulations regarding radio communications.
  • Receive transport requests from outside agencies while maintaining professional phone etiquette.
  • Work with other Communication Specialists and staff in the Communication Center.
  • Properly utilize radio equipment to relay medical information accurately.
  • In-flight, is responsible for continuous, non interrupted flight following responsibilities to include documentation of position reports.
  • Accurately maintain records in database/charting/reporting in Golden Hour software.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and/or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
