Our Communication Specialist receives critical patient requests requiring helicopter transportation and relays that information to the helicopter crew serving the region. The candidates for this position must be able to work under pressure and remain calm. A higher than average attention to detail is required and the individual must be able to maintain sharp focus on all aircraft while in flight. He / she is responsible for demonstrating competencies in operating all radios, information systems, and any related equipment associated with the Air Medical Communications Center.
GENERAL DUTIES
a. Acquire extensive knowledge and demonstrate application of policies, procedures, and protocols related to the Med-Trans flight program(s).
b. Acquire and demonstrate strong knowledge base and application of the Post Accident Incident Plans (PAIPs).
c. The Communication Specialist is expected to have knowledge of applicable sections of the Federal Aviation Administration regulations including Operational Control procedures.
d. Comply with FCC regulations regarding radio communications.
e. Receive transport requests from outside agencies while maintaining professional phone etiquette.
f. Work with other Communication Specialists and staff in the Communication Center.
g. Properly utilize radio equipment to relay medical information accurately.
h. In-flight, is responsible for continuous, non interrupted flight following responsibilities to include documentation of position reports.
i. Accurately maintain records in database/charting/reporting in Golden Hour software.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and/or hear.
2. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
a. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
b. Emergency Medical Technician certification or equivalent training c. Emergency communication experience
d. High School Diploma
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
a. Prior dispatch experience, preferably in an EMS environment
b. Emergency Medical Technician certification
c. NAACS certification
