Commercial Written

Planning on taking the commercial written within the month. Does anyone have some tips on solid material that I can study that has worked for others? (i.e. books, online courses, etc)

Thanks!

I've used Dauntless for the last four writtens I've taken and have been very happy with the product and the results.
I've also used their Oral prep which is a nicer and fuller alternative to the paper books.

As far as the information for the oral.... I just studied using the FAR/AIM and the federal publications such as Airmen's handbook of aeronautical knowledge, airplane flying handbook, etc. I had no problems on the oral. I don't see much of a need in dropping a lot of money on a formal "study set" for the oral. The fed pubs have all the information.

I used King Schools a couple years ago and wish that I hadn't. Shepard Air is where it's at.

What, you didn't intentionally get 89% so that you could get your money back and then brag about it?

Man, you must not be a regional pilot.

Does Shepard work well if you haven't already began working on a cert... ie: taking the written before training for the instrument/commercial?

It works on the basis of memorization. You don't need to know any of the information if you simply use the prepware the way they want you to. Super easy though.. If you REALLY sit down and go through the software, you can get it done in 2 days with a 95%. WELL WORTH IT!

This^^

Plus if you take the extra time to read all the explanations with the questions you will learn something too. The prep for the Instrument is better than the commercial IMO because it comes with a memory aid sheet. That sheet is worth the price of the prep alone especially for the ATP test. Good luck!

You are doing it wrong, why waste time when you don't have to? Study programs cut to the core of what's on the test.

Very worth it. I like getting the written out of the way before any training. Ive used Sporty's, Gleim, and now Shepard study programs. Shepard provided the highest score in the least amount of time studied and I actually feel like I learned something other than memorization of the answers. Well worth the money.
