Commercial Training Delay

Well yesterday my CFI at IB9 called me and toll me someone
had a bad landing on the arrow and screw up the landing gear and that it was going to take a day or two to get it fix.

Today he called me and toll me that the aircraft is severely damage and that it will take 3 to 4 weeks to get it fix.

That's if the owner decides to fix it.

It sucks because that the only complex aircraft they have and that's the only 141 school in the area. I actually commute about 70 miles to train there and now this happens. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Does anyone knows of another flight school in the boston area that offers 141 training?

I don't want to do part 61 it will take to much money and to much time.

I don't know what's going to happen, I just want to keep my options open.

thanks

How many hours do you have already? I am jsut about done with my IR I may go 61 depending on my total hours. The 141 program at my FBO is 120 hours for commercial training so we'll wait and see. Depending on the hours you have, 61 may in fact be cheaper.

Did you guys know that up to 50 hours in a ground trainer can be applied towards the commercial under part 61?

50 hours holy smokes Batman! That will save a few branches off of the money tree. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Would the Frasca141 sim qualify? That is what my school has and I have used for some of my IFR training.

Yes it would. It has to be with a CFI, though. Not loggable solo. Kind of a loophole in the regs. Not sure what you'll learn. I'd tell your CFI you want to get really good at holding pattern entries and NDB approaches

Sure does. However, depending on how much they charge for the sim and the instructor it may actually be cheaper to go tool around in a plane by yourself to build hours. Thats how it worked out for me.

Frasca 141 ($45) + instructor ($25) = $70 per hour

cessna 152 = $60 per hour

Granted you could count approaches in the sim towards currency.

here in msp:

frasca141 $60
cfii $46

C172SP(2002) $103

Better off solo

See, this where training in the twin works for me. I can take lessons in the Motus sim for about half what I could solo (IF I could solo) in the twin. BTW, the Motus is still there after the hurricane, the Seneca isn't. So, I also don't have much of a choice in the matter......

I have 140 hours, I need another 60 hours to get my commercial. I was planning to do some twin training as well
because I don't think it going to take me 60 hours to learn those commercial maneuvers, however my CFI is a little be hesitant to do it that way.

Cachon,
I know we have the same CFI, but we both have broken aircraft too! The 152 I usually fly is having some trouble..but at least 1B9 has a few others to choose from..

..Anyways, why don't you try Norwood (Controlled), Taunton, or even North Central up in Providence..

Now, see, that's a damn shame. How in the world can they charge so much for that?

it is a shame, but:

Rock <me> Hardplace

It has been nice though when getting holds down. I can get teh concept on the ground befire I try them in the plane. The only complaint I have about the 141 is it is so, so, touchy. It takes me a good couple of sessions to get the feel for the thing and then I start to see some results. The other good thing is using it when it is TuRbUlEnT. It same on my supply of sic-sac's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry to hear about your delay. Just a word of caution if you're looking at other 141 schools. 141 regs say that if you transfer schools, the new school can only credit you with up to 50% of their course requirements using the training that you received at your old 141 school. That might add more time and money than just transferring to a 61 school.

Hopefully the flight school will get the Arrow fixed. There are incentives for the guy to do it. If he dumps the Arrow without replacing it, then he loses the ability to teach Commercial Pilots under 141.

Just my $0.02

Ray

Good advise, I didn't think about that.

However, I'm just starting on the commercial maneuvers
I'm still working on the 50 hours of X-country time that are required.

so if worse case scenario I don't think I will be losing much.

Thanks

YOU DONT HAVE YOUR INSTRUMENT RATING YET?why dont you get that first?

I have my instrument rating, but I did that at DCA and I didn't need 50 of X-country time.
