Commercial Heli to private pilot airplane

Hey you guys, I have a student who is nin the army and has his commercial helicopter, I am training him to get his Private pilot airplane and know all the requirements that must be met for the certificate except one. Does he need to take a private pilot written test since he is going to an airplane.

(The short answer is no about the written, but I really recommend going through that article. Plenty is not very understood on this subject.) If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Also, I wanted to ask you a favor. A kid I know is very interested in airplanes and I wanted to see if you wouldn't mind giving us a tour sometime. Let him sit in a cockpit and play with the flight controls... that sort of thing. He's only 7, so anything would be really cool to him.
 
Thats a good article, it would have been helpful when I was stumbling my way through one of these.
Another good nugget of advice that someone gave me: Helicopter pilots have very little regard for airspeed. We could have been doing 50 KIAS on the downwind and he'd look at the tach and say "rotor RPM- check" Perfectly comfortable flying slow and low.
