Combined Commercial/Instrument checkride?

So it's looking like I will finish my instrument rating and commercial SE at about the same time. Instead of paying for two separate checkrides, what does everyone think about combining them into one? Yeah, I realize it'd be an all-day affair, but I can't see the wisdom in paying $$$ for separate rides only days apart.

Discuss.

I am building time towards my Comm-SE and I remember how hard my IR ride was. There is no way I would attempt to combine the two on the say day. The flight portion of the ride was 2.1 TT and I was whipped at the end.

There is so much to do remember for the IR ride that I would not want to focus on anything else.

Can you find an examiner that will even do both ride in one day? I would think they may want a separate fee for each ride.

I know that nobody plans on failing a ride, but what if the unfortunate happens? Would you even be able to or want to attempt the Comm ride?

If the examiner does not mind and you feel up to it, then , HeIIs BeIIs, knock it out. I just think with the IR ride being one of the hardest, it would be an awful lot for one to do.

Let us know what you decide.

someone should bumpt this to the general forum. probably get some more discussion.

If you combine two rides expect the examiner to combine the two fees. I did a Single-engine Commercial and CFI ride combined. $700.

I'm not trying to bust your balls, aloft, but of all people surely you would expect to be paid properly for a 10 hour day.

With that aside, I don't blame you a bit for trying. In some areas these checkrides are outrageous. Do you know anyone at a FSDO that might be able to help you out? I know it's basically impossible to even get them to do an initial CFI these days, just a thought.

Me "of all people"? Aroo? Where'd that come from?

More to your point, for whom exactly is $700 tax-free proper pay for a day's work?

Come to think of it, I oughta do it, then hand 'em a 1099 since it's in excess of $600. :D

I pulled it straight from my A hole.

Most examiners I have seen don't do it as a full time thing, nor do they take checkrides everyday. Also, on what other professional level (lawyers, doctors) would you consider an examiner? I know it still sounds outrageous, but it probably is on par for someone with similar experience in another field. If in fact it does take 10 hours to do both rides, the example would be $70 hour. Yep, that's a lot, but what do you think he should make?
