I'm currently CFIing in south florida logging good multi with around 400TT and over 200 multi time. My wife and I are very interested in living in Colorado either in Denver or Colorado Springs area. That said, I'd love to hear where folks in Colorado are currently working to build time. My concern is now that I have that precious multi time, now I need to maintain currency so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

It's been a LONG time since I flew there, but I used to fly out of Meadowlake Airport east of the Springs. There was a place there that catered to military guys, so I hung out there (and got a pretty good discount!:nana2:)

Colorado was some fun flying. I got my PPL in the springtime, and both of my XCs were right after snowstorms under COMPLETELY clear skies--talk about some beautiful views, even on the eastern plains. Whenever it's clear and cold, I think about those flights.

If you end up in Colorado, you're gonna love it...

I've just moved up to the front range area (Denver/Boulder) and its a great little big city. I'm currently working for a flight school out of KBJC, there are a few here and many more at other surrounding airports, I did a wide search of where to go and eyed a few of them in person.
If you have a specifc questions shoot me a PM, there are a few others here who are also in the area.

Jeffco Rocks!!!

McAir is the place to be as a student or instructor. Just make sure they let you teach IFR stuff at the beginning and you will be fine. Great place to be!

The good news around here is that there are 3 larger airporst (FTG is catching up to APA and BJC) and a good number of flight schools. Downside is that many of them hire from within which can make it difficult for a newcomer.

Big Flight Schools:
KBJC
McAir Aviation-Instructors are assigned to students/low paid CFIs, new airplanes expensive, you can't fly in the mountains or solo the seminoles :whatever:
Journey's Aviation-Choose your instructor/CFIs get paid a little better, older less reliable airplanes
Western Air- They have some cirrus airplanes, decent prices but I dont know much about them
KFTG
Daedalus- Seem very professional, airline oriented, expensive
KAPA
Flights inc-Someone else will have to chime in on these
Aspen flying club-

If you want to go to a big flight school there is a list to start with. If you want a much smaller more personalized feel, while paying less checkout www.flatironsaero.com

btw you should have no problem getting hired at any of the big flight schools in Colorado. They all either offered a job or a second interview before I made my decision.

Beechlover,

I lived in Denver and will be returning in October. I really liked flying out of Front Range Daedalus Aviation, great people, great planes. New cessnas. The also have an Arrow with the Avydine system and a seminole. Really enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. You can PM me for more info.

I flew out of KBJC for my instrument and part of my commercial. It's a fun airport to fly out of, as the mountains on the front range create some pretty challenging/interesting conditions. I don't miss freezing while pre-flighting the airplane, but fortunately as a CFI you won't have to worry about that too often.

The school I used at BJC was Journeys... There are some pretty cool CFIs there (at least there used to be), but the management/owner didn't trust any of them and really didn't seem to treat them very well.

Also, keep in mind you are going to have a lot more days (compared to south FL anyway) where you can't fly because of the weather. You can get some actual IMC in the Fall, but pretty much the rest of the time you can't due to icing/and or thunderstorm activity.

Hey thanks a buch guys I really appreciate the info.., take care! I'll definately check into the Boulder area!

I've flown mostly out of Flights Inc. at Centennial (APA)

Good club, it's grown up a lot since I started there just after they opened! Large fleet of Cessna A/C, Seminoles. Choose your instructor and off you go, they offer 141 and 61 training. They use the Cessna Pilot program.

Flights is owned by the parent company of Key Lime Air, a part 135 cargo/pax operation.

Others on the field include Aspen flying club, Centennial Flyers, and Independence Aviation (Who I believe only use Cirrus?)

I love the airport, it's busy and hectic and fun!
