Color vision and 1st Class Medical

Assume I have no medical discrepancies except for color vision anomalies, and can pass all the 1st class medical tests (except color vision):

Question:

Do I get a restriction on a 1st class medical ( Not valid for night flying)
OR
Do I fail the 1st class medical all together?

Can you please give more detail about the "No flying at night" restrictions, if available.

Thanks.

It means you cannot fly at night. The definition of night is found in Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) part 1: “Night means the time between the end of evening civil twilight and the beginning of morning civil twilight, as published in the American Air Almanac, converted to local time.”

You will get a restricted medical.

Try the Farnsworth lantern test. I find that about 60% of people who fail the color plate tests pass the Farnsworth lantern test. You can find more info on it at http://www.myflightsurgeon.com/Farnsworth.html. The FAA's approved tests for color vision and the testing procedure are at this link: http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org...m/ame/guide/app_process/exam_tech/item52/amd/
