Hey guys...I'm currently debating on which school to go to, so I'd like to hear your opinion on things. I'm currently a Sophmore at TCU (Texas Christian University) but will be transferring after this semester (too expensive!) The two schools I am deciding between are Oklahoma State University or Texas A&M University. If I went to OSU and majored in aviation science I would get my ratings alot faster, as they would be through the school, and part of the curriculum. However, I have alot of friends at A&M, and if I go there I will have to major in something outside of aviation (poli sci maybe?), which would make me better rounded and give me something to fall back on i suppose. It would mostly likely mean holding off on getting those ratings though, with all the time that will be spent studying and what not. I'm really ready to start flying, and other than music (I'm in the drumline at TCU), I can't really think of anything I'm interested in enough to major in outside of aviation. However I'm sure I would have alot of fun and what not going to A&M. So any opinions would be great! Thanks!

Well, if you're really interested in nothing, study business. It's about as useful as an aeronautical science degree but at least people won't say, "Uhh whuts dat" when they ask what you majored in during a non-flying interview.

Do something way different... Go to a side of the country you have never been to before and spend a few years there.

Ever been to the pacific northwest? University of Washington, Oregon?

Just an idea.

Go to A&M. I have a sister, a cousin, and a best friend that went to Tech, and they all agreed: It's in the freakin' desert and there's nothing else there.

There's much more poontang at A&M, and that's what college is really all about anyway. That and the degree thing, but that's like four years away, so why worry about it??

how about a cheap and small state college located near an airport with an inexpensive part 61 flight school. A degree is a degree, noone is ever going to turn you down for a job because your degree says "college" on it instead of "university". The money you save goes towards getting your CFI ASAP. Take a semister off if you need to. Then, instuct during college (instruct independantly if possible, more income that way). I dont care how hard your college is, you still have more free time than you'll know what to do with. Most college kids drink or even more pathetically play video games to kill this time. This is time you should be flying! Well, a social life is good too but there is still plently of time left for that and since you're "accomplished" compared to most of the worthless turds at college you'll be one step up the food chain. Just my advice, I took my 4th semister off (leave of absence) to finish my inst/comm/CFI. I was able to take a bunch of classes thru UVSC online so i didnt delay graduation. Now im going into my 4th and last year of college with 1100 hours.

All I'm gonna say is w00t to drumline. I spent 4 years in the drumline at Western Michigan University on the snare line. It was kickin'.

Plus they have a $5000 rebate if you dont get a job! That should hold you over for a while. They're really lookin' out for ya.

Stage right, which is actually left?

Heavens to murgatroid, what ever do you mean? :)

Saarsgard... HAAAR!

(Ok, mea culpa for the thread going off-topic... It's the Shiraz!)

But to answer the question, state college is the way to go. I think apart from going to an Ivy league school or one of the military academies, no one in any industry really gives a crap where you went.

"I went to USC!"

"That's great now, remember I said no onions, mm'kay?"

Wow, I guess when it gets late people get to thinking that they can just start acting crazy.

YARRRR, SHIVER ME TIMBERS!!!! yAR SEAMAN ARE OOTA' LINE ERE'. SHIP SHAPE MATEYS OR ITS OFF TEH GANGPLANK YE GOOOOOEEEEESSSS!!!!!

YAR!

I'd say both are going to be expensive still. I know OSU has an OK program and theres lots of booty there. One of my old students went from SOSU to OSU and said it was pretty ok.

I've been to campus and it rocks.

you might check if you can double major if youre really worried about majoring in something else. Something like busines would be pretty easy.

TCU REPRESENT

I'm not sure how your grades are or if you're interested in the military, but rotc may be the thing for you to look into. I'm in afrotc here at tcu, haven't pulled in a scholarship yet, but we're working on it.

TCU V TECH. I'll be That Guy in the stands. Go FROGS
