Colgan Q-400 Training/Schedules

Anyone know about how long the training program is for the Q, as well as what the schedules are going to be, ie.. home most nights...Thanks.

Not sure of the training schedule, a pilot can answer that for you, but the March bids came out late last week and pretty much all the lines were day trips. I bid one that has Saturday nights in CMH and that's the only line with an overnight in it. Q crew is upset since we were told there'd be many 3 day trips (which is what we had for the first month of flying.) Hopefully, April will see the return of overnights! Hope that helps!:)

You will do 2 weeks in manassas VA doing indoc training or basically 10 training days mon-fri. After that you will mostly likely go to Toronto, possible Seattle to flight safety but it is 80/20 you are going to Canada. You will be in Canada for roughly 26 days is the length of he course but that can be pushed longer due to sim availability, sim breaking or you requiring additional sim training. Oh and IOE in your case would likely be immediately after training since we need guys on the line and that depends on you but typically is done in a 3 or 4 day, I was done in 18 hours over a 3 day trip.

All in all you are looking at around 2 months or so. I reported to training on Nov 7th and took my checkride on Dec 20th and that was with a 4 day thanksgiving break so overall it was 44 days total or just over a month and a half. Most guys ended up at 2 months due to extra sim sessions.

All of the bases right now are doing day trips mostly as Wild said but we were told from the beginning that EWR would be overnights and the outstations would be out and backs. The outstations are out and backs as said but us at EWR are all getting crashpads. We will have to see what the coming months have for us.

Usually when you first get an airplane there's lots of turn lines. But as the schedule matures and you get more airframes, the overnight and 3 day trip lines increase.

From what I know, (and it isn't much) Continental only wants 2 airframes to overnight at EWR, so as more planes come online there are going to have to be more overnights. Correct me if I'm wrong.

that could be true since we only have 2 airframes doing overnights in EWR now. Probably trying to save some hotel and per diem cash for the month.

Guys, thats awesome info thanks.. I def. dont mind day trips.. Anyonme know how/when the bwi base will operate? Thanks again for all the info!!

Just a FYI for the newbies at Colgan. They don't know my travel plans for tomorrow to get home from an assignment, or have our schedules out for next month (it is the 26th) much less know how a particular base is going to operate.

I can assure you though, these outstation bases on the Q will not be around for long.

Welcome to the fun!

One other thing, Ive heard that if you took the atp written there is no technical test at colgan, is that still true?

I really dont miss that. I hope the union drive is successful for you guys this time. At least a legal CBA will hold them accountable.

The schedules are finally out.

On a side note... according to crewtrac, I'm flying a saab 340 tomorrow!

I'm guessing here, but I think this has to do with gate space. The Q's have to get parked over at the C terminal, and because ExpressJet has got a stranglehold on C2 right now we're going to get moved over to terminal A to make room for those huge planes you're flying (my understanding is that it has the footprint of a 737). Every day I'm seeing two Q's parked at like 101 and 103.

Looks like they might not even have to deal with a union drive now.....

agreed, unless mgmt tries to get this in court somehow which is improbable, a union drive this summer won't happen. If this integration takes longer than expected, I'd like to see a drive just to show resolve.
