Colgan on Massive Hiring Spree

Just a quick question, and I don't need any rude comments because I am just asking.....but as of right now if I wanted to be based out of KIAH, would Colgan be the regional of choice? What are the chances of getting IAH with Colgan? (Excluding XJT- because I dont have thge hours)

Well Republic is the other option but you definitely don't have the hours for them either. I recommend building time and learning from students as a right seat CFI/CFII. You will be better off in the long run, trust everyone on this site who tells you that.
 
I think they gave me the saab because they saw my '86 Saab 9000 parked outside, falling apart, with a crooked grill, and knew I could deal with the real aircraft.
 
While you may feel that your multi training was top notch and it may have been (I flew a 1965 Beech Travel Air at one of the scariest outfits in Texas and feel the same way), AriBen is known for telling its students that its kosher to load up a plane with an instructor and a student in the left seat and another in the backseat. All three log PIC which is total horsesh*t. The FAA knows this and airlines know this. I speak with a light heart. I know of several folks who went the AriBen route and disclosed their habits to me when we were flight instructors. Their practice is unethical that a freshly minted AMEL pilot can sit in the back and log PIC. You're not going to help out one bit if the guys up front pass out on you.

That's the untold story of AriBen and what can't be posted. If you can look yourself in the mirror and accept what you're doing, fine. It doesn't matter after you get hired as the multi time builds after that but you will always have a BS column in your mind's logbook that you know isn't legit. I know someone who was challenged on this in an interview and our chief pilot will zero in on it when you're most uncomfortable.

Not trying to be a jerk here. Just wanted you guys to know where the huge amount of multi time is coming from.

If a couple people "supposedly" told you they did this, then they are just unethical. It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do w/ the Aviator, and everything to do w/ the character of those FEW people involved. That could happen anywhere. The flight school and all other students/ instructors (present and past) are victims of circumstance.

Well, this was from a couple of guys who emphatically said this occurred there and they systematically felt so guilty about it that they edited their logbooks to reflect it. I saw the logbooks. For you to scream at me shows me your state of mind. Sorrow and fear.

Usually when the story goes like "I know a guy who heard..." it's just not worth it! :)
 
Perhaps this was an old practice before you got there and its now moot. big deal. I just don't think the reputation of the school has really done much for its pilots. I could be totally wrong. I probably am and you know what...who cares. If you or any other pilot is gainfully employed then no problem right?

Right, no problem......until jokers like you start to bash an entire school on the "supposed" action of a few people.

And you're completely wrong. Aviator pilots are being hired at many regionals and 135 gigs. So, I guess the "reputation" isn't as tarnished as you'd have everyone believe.

I've just run into a lot of folks who looked at their feet when they mentioned they got their multi time there. You obviously loved your experience. Great. I just pointed out an experience I had. All experiences at a flight school aren't rosy. When you're 30 call your friends and tell 'em you're not going to be angry anymore.

Hey, I'm not angry. Just setting the record straight! I didn't necessarily love my experience at Aviator. I didn't dislike it either; it's a good program for the money. But, we aren't talking about my likes or dislikes about the Aviator. What we are talking about is, you're personal "second-hand" information about an entire schools Motis Operendi regarding the logging of time. It's obvious to me you don't know what you're talking about.

Oh, BTW, when I have the ability to travel BACK in time to my 30th B-day, I'll let all my friends know. So, I say again, GET A CLUE!

Don't ever think you're above dashing for strollers, pushing wheelchairs, schlepping ice from ops, throwing bags downstairs or pre-cleaning the cabin during a short turn.

No kidding. It's a "we're in this together" biz. The passenger doesn't see someone with epaulets reading a release behind the counter at the gate, they just see an airline person there. So, when someone says "Excuse me. Do you know what gate XXX goes out of?" are you gonna say "Uh, I'm a pilot. That's not my job" or are you gonna try to find the answer? Remember, the decision you make in that situation could affect that passenger's view of the whole airline, thus affecting their decision to fly that airline again. It could also have an impact on what they tell their friends about the airline. Think SWA magically became the way they are?

I went to ATP, but we had 3 ariben guys in my new hire class. They were all good guys and ariben had a good rep. Just dont believe everything you hear...COUGH:colganFO:COUGH

That is SO true.

Get off your lazy ass, walk out in the middle of the hall so you can point and say, "Gate 15 is right down there".

I used to be cranky pilot too for a period of time until I realized that if my mother who at the time hadn't flown before, had theoretically gotten lost at the airport and a pilot said, "Ain't my job, I fly planes" I'd probably take him out back and whip his ass.

Not really, but I'd probably want to.

Oddly, Doug Parker's threatened corn-holing of our airline (OMG, I said "our" airline that's scary) really did a good job at unifying the employee groups here at Southernjets. It's hard to describe.

Sorry for offending a couple of you guys. Something snapped inside of Cruise. I don't know why. Perhaps you saw something at AriBen you found suspect and had to get over the fact that you put up money to fly there. You made amends with yourself and when someone shines the light on something negative about the place...all hell breaks loose in the realm of the subconscious. I got that impression immediately with all the quick anger. Relax. I'm a person you'd get along with immediately if you knew me outside this one dimensional soul less posting palace. I mean no harm.

I have nothing to get over. You have a control issue and when someone challenges your self-imposed "authority" you get a little edgy. Just something to pay attention to as you near 40. Try to have a nice calm day...I sure will.

There is no "authority," and I have no control issues. I guess I'm not allowed to defend my schools reputation and that of my peers, according to you. Oh well, you and your completely uninformed opinion no longer matter to me.......it's obvious you just don't get it and most likely never will. It is also no longer worth my effort to continue this ridiculous banter. Keep up the good work out there.....super sleuth!

There has been many occasions when I have, helped people or physically guided them to someone who could advise them.
I've helped carry bags before, loaded aircraft, pushed wheelchairs, and once stayed on for an extra 2 hours helping someone who didn't speak the lanaguage or know were she was.
Sometimes we need to put ourselves aside and put other people first, thats what service is all about. All that an airline provides is service.
