Colgan+ALPA=????

For us Colgan pilots, if we elect ALPA what do you all think will be the first big change here at Colgan?? Just curious cause I am still not really sure what the union is going to do. Thanks!

The first big change will be that you'll have a huge, multimillion dollar organization run by pilots that ALL HAVE YOUR BACK.

It may not be readily apparent, but if anybody has a problem, ALPA will provide advice from legal, medical, financial, aviation specialist or several other areas of expertise to help you out.

It's the best- and cheapest- career protection resource you can get.

That should be the last thing on your mind, it's illegal to staple regardless. You should want to vote in Alpa for you and your profession, don't worry about Pinnacle they are good guys and want to work with us.
 
Pinnacle has been talking about date of hire with fences since the beginning. Before and after the ALPA vote failed.

It's not illegal if that is what your negotiator (Management) negotiates for you, as far as I am aware, but Pinnacle MEC doesn't want to screw CJC guys over so they wouldn't go for it.
 
On a side, but related note.....the IBT failed to generate enough cards and did not submit to the NMB to be placed on the ballot.

What this means is, ALPA will be the only union on the voting ballot. However, IBT (or any other union) could still be 'written in' if someone chooses to.

So, again I say I welcome all former IBT'ers to join us in our campaign to gain representation from ALPA. United we stand, divided we fall....it may be cliché, but it's accurate and will help our overall position as a pilot group.

I have asked this question to a few guys, and no one can give me an answer.

What happens in the time period from voting in representation to having an agreed upon contract? It was my understanding that the current set of work/pay rules would be strictly enforced in the mean time. Is that correct? If its true, then its pretty obvious why BH wrote up a document outlining when you get what pay credits.

Also, after voting in representation (hopefully ALPA), if the CP calls you up to do a carpet dance, are you already allowed to call up ALPA and request someone come along even though you have no contract?

Starting a union is a big job. There is a membership drive, committees set up, officers are voted in. The work rules will serve in the mean time.

If you have to do the CP carpet dance, you WILL have ALPA representation IMMEDIATELY. One of the first things they do is hand out cards that clearly stay 'what to do if.......' happens.

Not just a carpet dance, either. If you get into an incident or accident, your FIRST call should be that number on the back of the card ALPA gives you. Doesn't matter if you've got a CBA signed yet or not. They'll be there to help you out with the legal matters. It says right on the back of the card not to make any statements and tells you what to say in case you're pressed to do so.

I don't know I signed an ALPA card a few weeks ago not really knowing what it will do but from what everyone talks about it should be good! Ok I got a situation where I had a scheduled two day trip and the day before I look on crew trac and it was changed to reserve and a round trip to LCH and back. Scheduling told me it was for IOE guy or something, can they do that or is this a good, Union help me type of incident? Anyways hope we get it and don't get screwed anymore, I am ready for that!

Depends on how they work the removed for IOE clause. Ours puts you on de-facto reserve, but they can only contact you for changes 90 minutes prior to your show up to your original show time each day. If they call you 1 minute after your show, you're off for the day and still get paid for the original credit. You're under no obligation to answer the phone. That's actually one of the worst ROE contracts in the industry. If you guys stick to your guns, you could get it to where they can change your schedule but must notify you 24 hours out and NO RESERVE. There's no reason they should be able to put a lineholder on reserve just b/c they were removed for IOE. Without a union negotiated CBA, they can pretty much do what they want, but if I were at Colgan, I wouldn't settle for a ROE clause that allowed lineholders to be put on reserve status.
