Col Robert Morgan passes on

Piece of Trash
Being the Memphis Belle freak I am, I can't believe I didn't hear this until now. Col. Robert Morgan, the pilot of the Memphis Belle, died in Ashville, NC last Saturday night. He was at an airshow where he fell and broke his neck. He died in the hospital later. Here is the article.

I met Col Morgan three times, and he was always great to talk to. Full of stories, and his love of aviation was obvious. If you get a chance, I highly recommend his autobiography. He will be missed.

Agreed, a truly great man. To make it through the worst days of the Eighth Air Force in Europe and then head for the Pacific and the B-29, tremendous.

If any of you are ever around Savannah, GA be sure to see the Eighth Air Force museum. http://www.8afmuseum.net/

All heroes.

Sorry to hear about his passing. If I were him, I'd still be pissed about them casting Matthew Modine as me....

Very sad! He was a great aviator. I had the pleasure of seeing him at Sun-N-Fun last year.

True that. Good thing the movie did not use their real names though.

That movie didn't use a whole lot of real anything. Good movie, just hardly anything about the actual Memphis Belle (other than the name of the plane) in there.

True, true. It's my understanding that the mission played out in the movie was one huge co-mingling of their worst missions for the sake of dramatic license.

I've seen footage of the real Memphis Belle returning from her 25th mission and she looked to be in good shape. NOTHING like the 1980's version.

You're right though - great movie in regards to action and drama.
