Coast to Coast in a Comanche

A friend and I are ferrying his buddy's Comanche 260 out to Sacromento next weekend from Delaware (it'll be shipped to Australia from there). The first night will either be in Witchita or Kansas City the second one will be in the Reno area (if every thing goes well, which it won't). Any one in either city that wants to meet up and go get dinner or something let me know, I'd be honored to meet any of you!

Alex.

Careful with the density altitude in the high country, CK!

Kansas shouldn't be too bad for DA, come visit Denver

Went into KCOS the other day with 9300 FT DA.

A couple months too late. I am originally from Wichita, but left there a couple months ago to attend flight training here in Florida. I would have definately met you guys for lunch if I was still living there. Have a safe trip!!!

If we don't make it to Reno on the second night we'll probally stay in COS, any one from there?

If you stop by Dallas area (Arlington), send me a PM and we'll do lunch.

I'm not sure if we're going that far south, but I'll give you a PM if we get stuck going down there because of the weather.

Thanks, I'll be down in Daytona a few more times this summer, how far is Deland from there? I seem to remember it being 20 miles by air.

This time of year there is a ton of build up over the Sierra, early evening, plus the wind was about 20 knots out of the west, some good head winds coming from Reno.

If you end up closer to APA Denver one evening I'm sure there are a few folks who'd come for dinner.

Just a quick tip. Doug mentioned the density altitudes. I'm going to assume (hopefully correctly) that you understand high density altitude ops and mountain flight.

But I'll add that this time of year, you should definitely plan your mountain terrain crossing for the early morning. The earlier the better. It's not fun to be up in the Rockies on a summer afternoon.

Thanks, the guy I'm going with is one of those flown everything everywhere guys. This is his fourth or fifth ferry from coast to coast, hopefully he'll teach me everything I need to know.

Two engine failures and a crash landing later and I'm finally home and lucky to be alive.

I'll post more when I'm not so exhausted.

Damn that sucks. Do post the story.

Methinks it's gonna be one hell of an interesting story...

It sure as hell is! I don't have time to type it right now, but I'll give you a teaser. The first engine failure wasn't a big deal (atleast looking back on it it wasn't, at the time it was), we had no problem making an airport, it was fixed, then 14 flying hours later over the Serria Madres at 14,000' over 12,000' high mountains it quit again.

The story gets interesting from there and I'll tell ya'll about it when I get back home this afternoon. But I'll tell you what, those Madres were much harder to cross than the Rockies, which I never expected.

Alex.
