That's just starting pay. I don't think they're looking for a chief pilot level pilot. I think they're just looking for a new-hire that happens to have a type. 55k is competitive for starting pay in corporate depts. Some fortune 500 companies pay around 70k for the new-hires. At some companies, you start out as an FO straight up and at some companies all the pilots are "captains" and just swap seats every other leg providing you don't bounce the airplane if you're a noob. Either way, you're starting there with at least 55k a year and for starting pay and that's not too shabby.
I'm saying that assuming that they're not looking for a straight up street captain. That'd be different. The bigger the company the bigger the haggle in that case! But smaller companies love to take advantage of pilots.
