Time to get the pay and rules up to par.

I'd say it's beyond time! We're supposedly "simply the best".....mgmt can easily prove that w/ an industry leading contract for us.

take the survey folks... the contract survey that is!

I do wish that we could see a list of all the complaints, but i understand that we wouldn't see that until after a contract. Oh well.

Just a thought, but if you have certain language you want in your contract that another airline has, talk with some of those pilots to see what their complaints are about it.

Might help aleviate some of the "growing pains" of a first generation contract.

Whatever you do, don't have any lines in the contract that state "at the discretion of the company". That basically means, bend over, you are taking it up the ass with sandpaper as lube.

I met the Colgan Negotiation Comm in Herndon a few months ago. I believe they will fight to bring their contract out of the basement. They really seemed like a good group of guys. Keep the faith.

Will that effect you Matt?

Not directly. I might go to reserve, which is fine. I'm just tired of seeing good jobs being eliminated. After how hard Comair worked to get their industry leading regional contract, look at how hard they have been hit by the "race to the bottom." It's sad and frustrating at the same time.

It's also why I'm testing for the Illinois State Police in January. I'm going to have a tough decision to make if they make a job offer.

Can't Believe that Express is Furloughing more, the regionals with acceptable contracts are all shrinking rapidly, crazy to think 8 or 9 years ago Comair guys were getting 118 an hour to fly an RJ. The Bankruptcy contract killed that, and I'd bet money the next contract will be another retraction as well in pay and work rules.

Well, when you've got contractors that can move twice the lift for about 1/2 the cost per departure on routes less than 300 miles, it's not the surprising.

Especially when they'll fly a 70-seat airplane for less pay than we fly a 50-seater...I know I won't be too popular on this board with all the Colganites on here, but Colgan is a cancer on our industry. Flame away, but it's true.

In other industry news, ExpressJet will be announcing more furloughs/downgrades next week.

Argh! No more furloughs! We have enough people on the street. Any idea how many people they are talking about furloughing? My buddy at XJT just became a Dad and it would suck for him to get furloughed right about now...

Unfortunately, I don't consider this good news....

Seriously... they pay rates suck... but soft costs of operating an airplane are less than 20% of the total operating costs. Our pay rates may help keep the costs down, but the honest truth, is that the Q400 is much, much cheaper to operate.

When Exec's stop clearing 40K a month, reduce unneeded management positions and update mx/hr/sched computers to maximize cost savings then they will be competitive. you can complain about the pilot group all you want... But the Q would still be cheaper if we had the same exact contract as you... and I'm pretty sure that we would still be growing. We Burn 500PPH less, cruise at nearly the same speed, and carry 24 more seats. Break even on the plane (minus crew) is like 33 seats sold. I'd go farther and say it is the Perfect fit for the economy, it just landed on the wrong sen. list. Running these at a major with the narrow body rates would still save the majors money... just not as much as colgan running it.

the 50 seat jet, the 70 seat tp, All regionals are the cancer. not just Colgan... and I don't care how good your contract is, because it's not better than what the Majors had pre RJ.

I have to say, I hope we get this place up where it belongs. we all would benefit from it.

Yep, this is basically it.

Colgan's Q400 program is cheaper, therefore ExpressJet's 50 seat jets will get parked.

So now pilots who make less will become more prevalent.

This is a loss for the profession, and only a small gain for Colgan pilots.

There is no gain for the Colgan pilots in this... except maybe the chance to get the program up to the standards that it needs to be.

30 -45 Q's does absolutely nothing for me. It will do something for the 350-400 pilots that will be hired for the job. Heck, if previous case holds true... it will be hell for the line holders while we grow. so not worth it at times.

Interesting take. I wonder how many street captains will be hired while senior FOs sit and blink in amazement.

I really hope you guys don't get shafted again. Last time was bad enough.
