I have a class date 13 October with American Flyers at SMO for their CFI academy. Using the last few months of my 9/11 GI Bill under the new regulations that take effect 1 October. Hopefully the VA education system does not implode by then.
 
The first thing you will learn is that the FOI is the absolute cure to insomnia.

That just means that you wouldn't need your FOI test result for the practical. I had my AGI and my IGI before my initial and I got tested over the FOI pretty hard during my oral.
 
Could the reverse happen? The DPE or Inspector instead grills you on FOI since you already have an "instructor" certification?
 
No you definitely want to wait to take your AGI, IGI.
I talked with a guy who was going up for his CFII as his initial and he had his IGI and AGI.
Inspector asked him about critique and said he could not use AIH as reference.
Poor guy couldn't even get past the first question.
Worth it to wait until afterwards, thats my plan at least.

I was in the exact same situation, unable to use the AIH but I made it through the grilling. I don't think it was because I had an AGI and IGI, just the inspector. Houston FSDO, FWIW.
 
Congrats, good luck. As far as AGI IGI goes whoever is in that position, I would just over prepare for the checkride as per the PTS like it was an initial and you should not have any regrets. I think the only thing it does, is that you don't have to bring an FOI written to the checkride.

I went in with my AGI/IGI and the first two hours of the oral were solid FOI. Not that he did that because I was already a ground instructor, but because that is how he rolled.
 
Best of luck! I went to the academy at the PMP location a couple of months ago and used my VA benefits with no problem. You will have fun and will learn a lot
 
Went to the PMP location last month. Patrick who teaches the ground school really knows his stuff.. I would recommend going down to the PMP location, its by far the best location
