IFTA is always accepting resume's. I'm sure a lot of you already know about IFTA, but in case you don't here's some info on us:

Mins:
250 hours dual
50 hours Inst PIC
30 hours MEL PIC

Pay and Benefits:
Over $30k the first year (About $40k the second year)
Full Health, Vision, and Dental (Paid by company)
Paid Training (last about 6 weeks)
Paid Moving and Interview Expenses (Up to $2k)
90% off airline tickets to Japan and China (great if you want a cheap vacation)

"Drawbacks:"
2 year contract required
Foreign students = Poor English skills
Bakersfield, CA is HOT!

Cool Facts:
WELL maintained Bonanza's and Barons
ALL aircraft maintained by Raytheon (not just any A&P)
Once its time for an overhaul, we get BRAND NEW engines installed (Instructors get assigned fun flights to break in the engine)
The cafeteria food is DELICIOUS (only 2-3 bucks!)
Everyone here is serious/safe in the airplane and cool around the office
If you get hired and write my name down, I get money :)

Yep, that about covers it... overall, an amazing company to work for.

Would they consider reducing the dual given requirements a bit if I have experience teaching international students?

Good questions, you'll have to email HR about that (link is on their website). I doubt they'll lower their minimums though, I tbelieve its a strict insurance requirement.

I just started last month and I'm still going through training. The people here are great. I'm enjoying working under such a professional and relaxed environment. I've worked with Chinese students before, but the majority of students here are Japanese. I can already tell that the Japanese are more disciplined, making English the only tough barrier to overcome.

The 2 yr contract is not a problem at all to me
The foreign student part would be the FUN part. I absolutely enjoy interacting w/ the international students here at UND. A lot can't speak English so well, but it's really fun helping them learn the ins and outs of English and interacting with them overall. It's great.
The hot part might be a slight problem when flying, lol...but nothing too bad I guess.

I'm really interested in IFTA. Hopefully I can work for a semester or two here at UND and then get hired there.

I believe you'd have to pay the training price at a pro-rated rate. Training is $10, 500 initially and then another 10.5 for the upgrade training (for the baron). If you're not 100% sure that you'll stick around for two years with a job like this, then maybe you shouldn't apply

There's a couple UND guys over here right now. One just started a couple months ago. You get used to the heat pretty quickly and these bonanza's have a great climb rate to some cool air.

me too:

Kazumatsumoto, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Nagiri

Karakarawanga. Actually, thats something jabba says in star wars. bollocks

How is there a training cost when someone shows up with all their ratings? I can see 5 hours or so in the planes for familiarization but not even close to the amount of $10,500. Someone is pumping crack into the Bakersfield water supply.

Yeah, Rick Larch is still around.

Training last about 6 weeks, sometimes more depending on scheduling. I'm assuming the 10.5k comes from all the things they're spending their money on to get the Instructor Pilot on board. They pay up to 2k for moving expenses, pilot pay (the pay me $2240/month while in training), somewhere around 18 hours in a bonanza, a few hours of ground, etc...

A couple other small benefits I forgot to mention where that they pay for your medical exams and your CFI Renewal. The give you one hour with the bonanza and you go up with our FAA DPE (who's also our flight standards director).

Holy crap! You have to go up with a DPE for your CFI renewal? :insane: I'll stick with the on-line course.

haha, well, I have to go fly with him before I can even start teaching here, so doing my cfi renewal with him should be easy... he's a real cool guy...

Does IFTA hire on a constant rolling basis, or do they only hire at certain times of the year? I've noticed they have ads on AOPA and other places, will they just be hiring now or will this hiring trend continue for a while? I'm just leaving my current CFI job in Houston and moving back to Buffalo to get my MEI and build some multi time. Except the MEI and just a little more multi PIC I meet all the other requirements. I would like to apply there right after christmas and get on there to start the new year if they think I have what it takes.

I'd also like to take a trip out there and check out the facilities, anyone know if they give tours?

Thanks in advance for any help guys, its much appreciated!!

I think IFTA is always hiring on a rolling basis because classes come in every couple of months... so to answer you're questions, yes, they're always hiring. I'm sure if you make it out here they'll be more than happy to give you a tour... you're gonna love the place. Just make sure to email Janet (HR) about it ahead of time. I think you MIGHT be able to apply before you have all your ME time and then come back to start work once you've attained the requirements.
