Hey everyone...had my checkride yesterday and passed. Here's how it went, beginning with the day before...

On monday, I flew my friend out to ROC to finish his ride (busted on landings) b/c his insurance policy had expired and couldn't fly solo from our school...anyway, I got to ride in the back for the rest of his ride (ROC to LeRoy for short, soft, crosswind t/o and landings). I wasn't so nervous about my ride anymore because he had the same examiner I did. He passed!

On our way back to BUF, I brushed up on my landings and maneuvers, come to find out that the flaps were broken on the plane I had to take my checkride in the next day :( .

The next morning, I was at the FBO at 7am to finish the paperwork with my CFI, and found out that the plane wouldn't be ready for my checkride.

At 9am, the examiner showed up, and I told him about the plane. We would do the oral and take a letter of discontinuance. Bummer, wx was nice.

After passing the oral, I came up with the idea that we take one of the cherokees from my school to Dunkirk, where I knew they had a 172RG. The examiner was fine with it, and to our luck, when we opened the conference room door, the owner of Dunkirk's flight school happened to be there!! He called and had his people get the mx logs and top the plane off so it would be ready when we got there...AWSOME!!

So here's how the ride went...

Oral 9am to noon-

Administrative stuff (logbook, 8710 etc.)

Found an endorsement discrepancy in my logbook...thought the ride was over, but called my CFI and he came from work to fix it.

This led to a very lenghthy discussion of proper endorsements, AC 61-65 E. Very thourough on this stuff.

Next was FOI, beat it to death, just about all the list items
-What is learning
-Characteristics of a good critique
-Domains of Learning
-Flight instructor responsibilites
-Characteristics of a good test
-What makes a good lesson plan (I showed him examples of mine and he liked them a lot)
-Defense mechanisms
-Proper Sequence of a Lesson
-probably more, but I can't remember

Next was lots of regs...
-What are you required to teach a student pilot before sending him on a solo (don't bother memorizing...tab it in your FAR/AIM)
-what to do before sending him on a solo x country (more on endorsements, mostly what we already touched on in the beginning)
-How long is a student pilot cert. good for?
-What if someone wants to get a student cert. w/o a medical? Where can he get it from?
-How long are medicals good for?
-Flight Instructor privilages, limitations
-How to renew your cert.
-Flight review
-How long is a temporary certificate valid?
-How long is a certificate valid if you have a chage of address before you change it on your certificate?
-More in part 61

Up next aerodynamics
-teach difference between induced and parasite drag
-teach adverse yaw
-teach region of reverse command

Systems/Powerplant
-Teach/draw 4 steps of combusion process
-How do the valves open and close (explain what a camshaft is)
-MAGNETOS!!
-Will the engine work if you loose all electrical power? Why?
-What happens when the ignition is in the off position? (p-lead)
-Pre ignition/detonation
-Manifold pressure explanation
-What is carburetor ice?
-What causes the temp. to drop?
-Difference between carb ice and induction ice
-What do you do about induction ice?

Weather
-Read/interpret METAR/TAF---everything
-Very particular about windshear...AC 00-54 pilots guide to windshear avoidance I think, good thing I had it in my book!

Navigation
-In general, what is dead reckoning?
-Teach how to plot course and go from TC to CH
-Is the deviation card required to be in the airplane? Yes
-Sectional chart, very thourough, uses detroit sectional and Las Vegas (lots of funky airspace)
-Airspace rules

ADM
-DECIDE model

Hypoxia

Probably some more, but that's the jist of it.

Flight 1pm-430pm...thats with travel to/from BUF DKK

He flew the airplane all the way from BUF to DKK from engine start to shutdown. He veered way to the right on the runway, wants you to correct it, not just yell at him.

Teach straight and level, turns

Got out of the cherokee in DKK and took the 172RG for soft, short, and normal t/o and landings. Also, emergency procedures (go around, power off accuracy landing). Lazy eights and chandelles.

Back into the cherokee and finished up on the way back to BUF.

Steep turns, s turns, eights on pylons, power on/off stalls, unusual attitude recovery, turns to headings, climbing and descending turns under the hood.

The rest of the time he went sight seeing while I flew the rest of the trip back to BUF!

Overall, much easier than I expected...be very prepared for this ride and thats how it will feel. I was very relaxed and only nervous during the first hour of the oral and doing landings during the flight. Bianco is an awsome examiner. That guy used to fly 767's and has 7 type ratings!!...can really fly the crap out of an airplane.

Good luck to everyone with an upcomming ride:nana2:
