Don't know if you're still looking, but I interacted with this guy a lot as a controller and we all loved him. Well spoken, active in the aviation community, and a good pilot from the perspective I had in the tower cab.
Downside is he's down in ELP, so you'd be driving about an hour from Cruces. If that's not an issue, he's the first person I would look at were I taking lessons in that area.
