If you are a CFI/CFII, and lose your medical, what exactly can you/can't you do??

-Can't teach private's (since they can not be PIC yet)
-Can do commercial's
-BFR's would be OK since the pilot would be PIC
-IPC's would be OK since the pilot would be PIC

-What about primary instrument students? Seems it would be OK so long as it wasn't in actual...right?

what say ye.

You can teach CFI/CFII/MEI too, as this wouldn't require you as PIC.

It is my understanding that you are PIC on the FR and IPC, however, until you have satisfactorily found the reviewee or proficiencee (my made up word) to be proficient. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

I think you're correct on the instrument students. You may not log PIC for only that part of a flight in which you acted as safety pilot, so a medical would not be needed for this activity.

Depends on the circumstances on whether you are PIC or not in a FR. If the student is still within their two years and are going for a FR then all would be good. If their FR had expired, then they would need a CFI with a medical.

As far as an IPC, you can do that on the ground (FTD/SIM) in which you wouldn't need a medical. Also could do it in the air for the same reason you could do a instrument student so long as you do not enter actual conditions.

No you cannot do instrument instruction in the airplane for instrument students or IPC's.

A safety pilot is a required pilot crewmember, therefore a medical is needed. (14 CFR 61.23(a)(3)(v))

Your absolutely right. Thanks for that.
