CFI add ons FSDO only now?

Here so I don’t get fined
Heard this l rumor yesterday that now you apparent have to do any CFI ride, not just your initial, with the FSDO. Has anyone else heard this?
 
Nope. GIve us a source, and i'll be glad to comment on it. I can't imagine them doing this, but on the same token I can... It doesn't make logical sense, but that's also why it makes perfect sense...
 
Doubt it, FSDO doesn't even have examiners for everything there is out there.

Call them for a glider or seaplane INITIAL and you will almost certainly be told to call a DPE.
 
Supposedly it's just the DPEs in my district that can't do it anymore. Just going on what I've heard, but that sounds extremely strange.
 
I wouldn't expect the FSDO to want anymore responsibilities. But who knows? Let us know if you find any reliable sources!

Have you asked your FSDO? It sounds strange to me too, but stranger things have been known to happen. I'd be interested in hearing what the feds have to say about it.

I haven't, but this is from someone who apparent did talk to them, and I guess it's just for the DPEs here, we can go across the river and do it with a DPE under the neighboring FSDO.

If it's for an initial checkride they have to way 2 work weeks first, and the FSDO has to defer you to a DPE that they want you to go with. JordanD, who is your local FSDO?

That's just your fsdo then. Our's isn't anything close to that far behind. More like 3 weeks to a month.

Louisville FSDO
 
I'd be happy to go to my FSDO to add my II. Good guys there and I'd gladly save the $350 DPE fee.... but I highly doubt this rumor is true. And they're generally able to accommodate a checkride on relatively short notice.

Don't need a source. It's a freaking FSDO. They make • up as they go and it's golden until you get a lawyer from the FAA to smack them... and then still they may not listen.

Know how many times I've thrown the "prove it" line they did on my CFI-A checkride back in their face, and won? Maybe I just like picking fights with the "big boys" because I know they're chocked full of •, and like being the underdog.

Better strategy is to make friends with them. That way when they make up • it's in your favor

There is absolutely NO WAY to be friends with the people at the FSDO. They're known for the worst pass rate, worst attitudes, and are out to get you. I know most FSDO's are like this, but there are the some waaaay worse than others.

Not true. I am personal friends with most of the safety inspections at my local FSDO. Fly with a few of them for pleasure flights. Get invited to their house parties as well. No reason you can't be friends with them.

A lot of FSDOs might be tough, but you can't say ALL of them are out to get you. The inspector I did my CFI initial with was one of the nicest people I've flown with.

I was in a FSDO one day to participate in a hearing on behalf of a guy I gave some remedial training to after he F-d up. On my way out, one of the inspectors that frequented a school I worked at called me in (by name) and we shot the crap for awhile. Really a great guy. Not sure why some have to be, well, you know... This isn't the lav!

Meh...I've met one of the ABQ FSDO guys. He seemed like a relatively normal human being and overall likeable guy.
