Cessna 340

Looking for opinions on the plane including range/weight carrying ability/speed/MX etc...

If you hate the plane, I am open to suggestions on similar aircraft, but have to be 325K or less, and pressurization is pretty much must with this owner.

Thanks

If you're looking at the 340, I would consider a 414.

414 is only 7-10 kts slower (real world speeds) and is much more comfortable.

I'm 5'11 and 165lbs, it was a tight fit in the cockpit with another pilot of similar size.

The 414 is going to cost roughly the same to operate and insure.

I fly a 414 RAM VI, we can carry myself + 3, 200lbs adults + 100lbs of bags and full fuel (1200lbs/200 gals) and have right at 100lbs of useful load left over. (Right at 2,200lbs useful load)

190-215 KTAS depending on altitude.

Mx is going to run probably $20-30,000/year (includes annual cost).

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it.

I had considered the 414, but the prices I have seen seemed to put them above our range (at least the one the owner told me to look in for now).

For the prices I have seen the 414's, it seems we could get a mid time King air 90. How would the 414 compare to that?

Are you looking at 414's or 414A's. There is a couple of key differences.

The 414 has tip tanks/aux tanks like a 310/340. Shorter nose and doesn't have the Wing Spar AD.

A very nice (tricked out) one can be had for less than $350,000.

The 414A has a different wing (it has a wet wing), it does have the Wing Spar AD, and has a longer nose.

Have a look at this aircraft for instance:

Or this one, it's the most expensive 414 RAM on the market right now...and I bet you could talk them down below $325,000.

Thank you, I'll looking into those planes.

Is the only difference between the 414 and 414a the wet wing/AD?

The 414A has the nose of a Cessna 421, meaning it has the longer nose (can carry more up there).

The A model has the same TSIO-520 Engines (335hp), unless it's an AW which has liquid cooled engines.

The A model has a hydraulic landing gear system, as opposed to the electric gear of a 414/340/310.

In this discussion, you can look up more info if you like...or if you have other ?'s, shoot me a PM.

You and me both...I love our company 414, and since I get to take the gf on trips with me, it's kinda like our own plane...

Twin Cessna's are great for family/small company planes.

I just can't believe the price on some of the more tricked out 421C/414A's...I can't imagine dropping $600,000+ on an airplane that is my age (27 years old).

This 421C makes me drool...

Wow... that's probably the nicest 421 I've seen... little overboard for the airplane, but hey it's nice.

I didn't even know there was strakes for it

Makes ours seem like a dinosaur. We still have the Sperry Radar, and the Collins...and it still works good.

We had one very similar here in North Georgia not too long ago...guy flew it over from Germany. He blew an engine out near the Grand Canyon about a month ago, but he had the composite 4-blade props.

I can't believe how much extra speed you can get with that STC...I wonder if it's available for the 414...

They paid for some excellent photography to make that look good!

Holy 421C, Batman! What a sweet looking bird. I LOVE the after-market props with the red tips!
