Cessna 208 FAA icing program update

I don't know how old this information is, but recently the DO at my company attended a RACCA conference and received some good news on the 208 icing issue. For operators who wish to fly C208s in icing conditions, 3 things will likely have to occur beforehand. Here are the 3 things:

1. A jointly developed training program between RACCA and Cessna will become required for operators wishing to utilize the aircraft in icing conditions.
2. Modifications to the stall warning system.
3. A required installation of a low airspeed awareness system.

Besides the first bullet point, I can't honestly see how this will make things any better. If you didn't know the aircraft was collecting ice before, how will putting a "low airspeed awareness system" on it help the cause? If anything it'll hurt, as it will add weight and make the aircraft perform less in ice...

Sounds to me like a typical polictical CYA to me.

This is to get some relief from the recent AD on C-208's in icing. Yes, it is a CYA and the people involved, IMO, are just appeasing the FAA however they can to keep the 'Van running during this coming winter. Basically it amounts to, as said before, people doing stupid stuff. If you're in icing in a Van, get out of the icing. If it's slowing you down too much and you can't get out of it, land as soon as possible and wait for it to pass.

There..training done.

Is this why freight operators have higher accident rates?:p

Sorry, I couldn't resist!!

yeah, that one i don't get...it's like i need something to remind me that my plane is too slow to blow the ice off??

Makes me wonder if they're gonna start going Cirrus on us
