Cessna 150 parking brake

N519AT

Ahh! This is how I change this!
Well, I'm stuck in Put n bay because we set the parking brake on the plane and now we can't get it off on the right main. Does anyone have any ideas on how to release the parking brake?

Thanks!

Hey, I can think of worse places to be stuck! Is the parking brake itself not releasing when you step on the brakes or are the pads just frozen to the disc?

Yeah I know right! Too bad we're underage though. I did get it unstuck though. I just had to press the pedals extra hard. Thanks though

I never used the parking brake for my initial training. Also, ATP SOP was to not use it. The first time I started using it regularly was when I got the the left seat of a jet.

Yeah I hear ya on being underage at Put-In, if I recall that airport is unlit and limited to daylight operations only. Kelley's Island is another fun one up there too!

I was reading their Seminole manual and I noticed that that don't like using the parking brake. Any reason behind that?

Another thing I always wondered was when a plane is tied down the brake is never set. Is that because it can seize up?

The brake can seize, but the primary reason that ATP stressed not using the brake was that you'd never land with it set.

Wow I say though a lot. I guess that's what you get for trying to type a message on a golf cart.

I know now not to set the parking brake on piston airplanes. I've never really had a problem before this. Weird.

152 parking break is horrible, they have good regular breaking anyway.

I would always use the parking break on the Tomahawk though, not the best breaks and wasn't the biggest pain to deal with.

Apparently the 152 parking brake a) doesn't work and b) when it does work, sticks. So most people don't use them.

I've heard a couple of reasons for not using the parking brake. The most prevalent are:
1. If you leave the airplane and the line guy needs to move it, he can't.
2. If you leave it set in the morning, as the fluid heats up it can build up pressure and blow seals. Likely? I don't think so.

The line guy reason makes more sense to me.

I don't know...I've seen it happen.
There is never a reason to set a parking brake plane really (GA). Carry a chock with you or tie down.

It's brake, not break :)

The main reason for us is that the line guys will most likely drag it with the parking brake on because they either didn't notice it or didn't no how to disengage it. Our LSTs are mostly non aviation folks and our tugs are all pretty strong.

The 150/152 parking brake is notorious for being stuck. The best way is to press/ pump the pedals and try rocking the airplane at the same time.

If you follow the parking brake chain down to the pedals, you can often jiggle the little doo-hickey that attaches the chain to the pedals. Surprising how low tech the parking brake is, and taking a peek down there will probably convince you never to use it.

Just leave it in 1st gear when you park! :sarcasm: I'm a little weary of leaving the brake set, even on my car and especially in the winter, a little water on the pads that freeze and your stuck.

The best thing to do is steal a set of FBO chalks and take them with you!
