Centerline lights

You's guys probably know this already...I didn't.

I read in one of the hundreds of publications sent to the house...that if the runway centerline lights are offset slightly from the runway centerline...that indicates the 'normal' high speed taxiway exit is on the opposite side of the offset.

I.E., if the centerline lights are slightly left of the centerline stripe...the high speed exit will be to the right.

I checked this out on my last trip...guess what...it was true to written form.

One runway had the lights right down the middle...I guess that means you can exit left or right.

Well...still learning here.
 
I knew there had to be a reason for that. I noticed them being off before... Next time someone asks me something that I don't know off the top of my head, I shall counter with that question!
 
And I thought there was just something wrong with Newark! But it's true. I'll keep that one up my sleeve for my Fed ride someday.
 
Good to know. A related question then... if they are centered up is it kosher to offset your take off roll as to avoid the bumps they cause? (I always thougth they were offset for this reason)

Hmm, good question, too bad I'll have to wait for a student to take off on the centerline before it bothers me enough to find out :p :D
 
There's nothing like scaring the crap out of your passengers in the back who cant see out the front. (in a piper at least) Going along and letting yourself slowly drift over to where the lights are getting that lovely "BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM!" :o
