Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger to Fly Again for US AirwaysSully Has New Management Role with the Company
TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 28, 2009-- US Airways (NYSE: LCC) announced today that Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who piloted Flight 1549 during its emergency water landing on the Hudson River in January, is returning to work in a new role as a management pilot. In addition to his flying duties, Capt. Sullenberger will join the US Airways flight operations safety management team.
“We welcome Capt. Sullenberger back to work and are proud to have him flying with us again as a member of the US Airways safety management organization,” said Chairman and CEO, Doug Parker. “US Airways is an industry leader when it comes to safety and Sully is an excellent addition to the team.”
“The months since January 15 have been very full, and my family and I have had some unforgettable experiences,” said Capt. Sullenberger. “However, I have missed working with my colleagues at US Airways and I am eager to get back in the cockpit with my fellow pilots in the months ahead. In my new role, I will continue to be the same kind of advocate for aviation safety that I have been for several decades.”
There will be a separate media advisory once the details of Capt. Sullenberger’s return to flight are confirmed. A pre-announcement of his return will be posted on Twitter @usairwaysnews. Further information about his return, or details about media access, are not available at this time.

Actor Gives Up Controls Of Pilot Mentoring Program

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― For years, one program has mentored and taught children about what it's like to fly.

Actor and pilot Harrison Ford headed up the program for the past five years. And today, Ford made a surprise move and passed the controls of the program to two very deserving pilots!

Captain Sully Sullenberger and First Officer Jeff Skiles were named the new co-chairs of the Young Eagles Program. Sully and Skiles were the pilot and co-pilot who landed U.S. Airways flight 1549 in the Hudson on Jan. 15, saving 155 lives.

Now in its 17th year, the Young Eagle Program provides flight opportunities for a million and a half young people each year. Kids from ages eight to 17 ride in airplanes and are mentored by volunteer pilots.

The co-chairs will now help make decisions about the organization for the thousands of volunteers that make the program so great.

Sully's been busy. :)

Apperantly, before he goes back to flying he has one last thing to do...

I wonder what the pax reaction will be today thinking, "Capt Sully flying LGA-CLT" and then realizing, this is the same man who's plane went down.... :) I'd pay to be on that flight today to see the reaction they get!

I am in LGA today and the US Airways Express Piedmont Gate Agents were more excited than the passengers. The 20-something year olds were screaming and crying when he walked up the jetway- almost like they had finally met their long lost fathers. Passengers were just ready to go to CLT.

That being said, it was cool seeing him pull up to the gate.

Is Sully married? With all the adolation of young, nubile gate attendants and flight attendants and rampers and god knows who else will he stay married long? :P

Did he do a good job? Absolutely.

But if something like that happens to me, I'm not writing a book, not doing interviews, not claiming "it happened when people needed to see that something good CAN happen". Enough patting yourself on the back, no get back to work.

BS
There is enough self aggrandizment going on out there, and Sully is not part of it. I got a buddy that caught Sulley in the DCA crew room and got a pix to put on facebook. I talk to him at length and he said Sulley told him point blank that it was a team effort and he is an ordinary joe. He isn't tooting his own horn, and that is one the reasons I really like the guy.
If he makes good on it, then so friggin beit and I AM happy for him.

Agree 100%. Others may have made it out to be a one man show but Sulley did not.
