This job would be easier without all the airplanes

Pilot survived with non-life threatening injuries.....
Probably all a ploy for the conservative gov't to secure our JSF order.... which I support :D

 OMGosh~!!!! that's going to be an expensive mistake! Glad the pilots are alright

Re: Canadian Forces CF-18 Crashes during airshow practice.*P

Biggest thing I see in the pics is that the left nozzle is all the way open and the right nozzle is all the way closed, suggesting some kind of engine problem at a minimum.

Wow, good eye... interesting...

That pass they normally go straight up from that to above 10,000 feet or more vertical... obviously one engine decided it didn't want to play anymore...

Re: Canadian Forces CF-18 Crashes during airshow practice.*P

Ejection systems never cease to amaze me. I would have to guess some sort of an engine problem too.

Re: Canadian Forces CF-18 Crashes during airshow practice.*P

kudos to the pilot for making such a quick decision to eject.

Re: Canadian Forces CF-18 Crashes during airshow practice.*P

One question for you military folks out there...I noticed in this picture that the pilot's chin is down on his chest. I remember being told once that ejection seats had hookups that attached the pilot's head, arms, and legs that automatically yanked them back to the seat when the handle was pulled. It made sense to me, as that would help alleviate the major whiplash damage you'd probably sustain in an ejection otherwise. Essentially, the idea is that /\ THAT doesn't happen during an ejection, which might break his neck. Is this true?

looks pretty crazy.vmc roll in a fighter jet. Glad everyone was ok!

The MiG-29 at Paris in '89 when it took a bird. Looks quite similar.

Re: Canadian Forces CF-18 Crashes during airshow practice.*P

Holy crap!! Glad the pilot is ok, amazing video and pics. I have NO IDEA how an F18 handles with an engine out, but is it possible that it lost an engine or something while doing that high alpha and then rolled like any multi would in that config? That really is amazing though! Couldn't imagine what the pilot thought afterwards.

Re: Canadian Forces CF-18 Crashes during airshow practice.*P

I sure am glad the guy turned out alright. Thank god for ejection seats. I am really happy the pilot decided to eject instead of having the 1 or 2 second period of second guessing, that second could have made the difference of him living and dying, especially at that altitude.
