Canada has taken over KSWF

Supposedly they use Pike's Peak as a reference point.

Canada is notorious for reporting visibility above 10sm in their METARs. It gets pretty silly when they are reporting 20sm.
Or is it silly the States reports 10 when the vis is way over 10?

I always liked Addison’s random 13 miles. They did the tower to Reunion Tower (the big ball) in downtown:

I see your 50SM and raise you...

To the original post: So it has been over 3 years since I have done a weather observation, but what that indicates to me is a manual observation using visual cues instead of automated equipment. LAWRS observers are technically required to put up to 30SM when doing visual observation. Seeing as a later oberservation had SKC instead of CLR in a later observation. It seems this airport was using visual ques rather than equipment to do the observation.

BGR used to report a visibility of 70 on occasion. On a clear day you can see Mount Washington from there. Of course, that was before the days of automated observations.

KSWF is joint so possibly a military observer, I'm not sure. Possibly using a mountain top to determine the vis.

I flew in and drove to the city when KEWR was on their semi-routine 3 hour flow. Beautiful area coming down along the Hudson.

That's probably a typo considering it's reporting vcfg. Also, my guess is it's meters, not miles.;) I think it's safe to ASSume it's 9km vis.
