Can I have my money back now?

Well, I may agree that half of them do and half of them dont. I'd say there are some pretty smart analysts and investors out there. I know they look at business a little differently as opposed to an employee.

Not bad or good. Just differently.

I hear the Frankfurt hub, as a pilot, was some of the best flying on earth. Quite a few guys moved over. I've heard lots of interesting stories about flying 727's over there intra-Europe during the cold war years.

If that ever came back, which I highly doubt, I'm sure Kristie wouldn't have any problem quitting and moving over with me!

I remember standing on the ramp in the mornings looking at our fleet of 727s, Tristars, MD-11s and even Airbus A310s... If you didn't know know any better you'd almost think you were in Atlanta.

Yep, those were the days! DL took over Pan Am and with it came the cool European routes that no other American (or non-German for that matter) Flag carrier had such as the historic Frankfurt - Berlin route. Man, back then DL pretty much owned Terminal 2 at Frankfurt. It's hard to believe that DL serviced places like Moscow, Athens, and Istanbul from Frankfurt.

I wonder if DL still has those traffic rights?

If Michelle Burns had anything to do with it when she was there she sold those routes off to help fund her's and Leo's pension.

Leadership 7.5 was Allen's baby, which BTW, I think caused him to "retire" when Leo took over. I can't remember if DL stopped flying within Europe before or after Leo took over though.

Let's blame Leo - he's a bean counter! :)

I tell you though IMO Ron was alot better than Leo. Ron at least was an airline guy and actually understood the industry. 7.5 gave Ron a bad legacy though with the layoffs. Leo was a a banker/bean counter. I think FRA hub closed right about the time Leo took over or at the very end of Ron's tenure. Now though Ron's 7.5 wasnt nearly as bad as Leo and the gangs cut and little nest egg they built to protect themselves.

Ah, Frankfurt. Oh how I miss the L10 flight from ATL to Frankfurt. Use to do that at a minimum of once a year. Love it, grew up on that plane.

Better than just about anyone else. He was pushing through the cost-cuts (7.5) during a time of profits. His reasoning, as he told us, was if Delta didn't adjust to where it could compete on cost, it was fubar. Hard to argue with that now.

You Dave back then we (all the employees) didnt see it. I dont know if Ron had a crystal ball, I dont remember seeing one in the office but the dislike for him was far far less than that of Leo and the gang. The only thing I think he could have done different is not make the changes so quickly and swiftly. If you remember the one thing that Delta prided itself on was the biggest one to suffer..Customer Service. Our service from that standpoint was horrible.

Yes, but he kind of got caught between a rock and a hard place there. They had been making a slow transition, allowing regular Delta folks to make it to normal retirement and filling in behind with contract people at out-stations (just as one example).

It wasn't happening fast enough and most importantly Ron was determined to hold pilot costs down so he had to make a stand. He lost that confrontation. We won and the booby prize was Leo and his "Costs! We don't worry about no stinking costs!" approach.

But it's hard to see the board being patient enough to let Allen's approach pay off. They'd look like geniuses now but couldn't have stood the heat for the five years or so it would have taken to get there.
