Called for interview

I was called today for an interview in a couple weeks with Chautauqua Airlines! I'm excited and looking forward to it ... two friends of mine are current CHQ captains and have lots of good things to say about the company.

Will post relevant details about the interview after it happens.

Hiring, at least at the regional level, is definitely picking up, folks. A lot of my friends are getting calls, too, and 1200-1500TT seems to be the range getting called again. Good news for all the up-and-coming people here on JC!

I knew it would happen sooner or later. You can always call me if you need some details since it wasnt to long ago for me. PM me if youd like.

Congrats, Russ!!! I told ya' - eastern NC isn't forever!!!! I know you've gotta be pumped!! Have you told your boss yet??

DUDE! That's sweet! Really happy for you man, you've earned it with all the time you've put in at your King Air gig. Good luck at the interview.

Cheers

CALLED FOR THE JOB!

To update the group ...

My interview was yesterday, 3/31. Flew to IND on the 30th, spent the night, interviewed yesterday as one of a group of ten guys. Finished up about 3:30PM, grabbed a flight home (after a wx divert I got home at 1AM), and hit the sack.

This morning at 11:30, they called and offered me the job!!

I go to class on April 19th. Really looking forward to joining a terrific pilot group. Will post about training when I get time to do so ... right now, I've got a whole lot of work to do to get ready to leave one job for another and get the move started.

Great news Russ, awesome to hear...Finally rewarded for your hard work with the King Air gig.....Good Luck, and enjoy yourself "Airline Pilot" <------ how do you like the new tag by the way?

Re: CALLED FOR THE JOB!

What will happen to Chautauqua if USAirways goes out of business? Have they stated contingency plans??

I have not heard/read "contingency plans" specifically related to US Airways should it not survive. However, all the growth airplanes are on the Delta and United sides of the house and there are rumors floating around out there of another partner in the works. (Of course, we all know what rumors are worth ...)

When America West closed the CMH hub and CHQ lost that contract, the company found a home for those airplanes (Delta took them) very quickly and no jobs were lost. I'm optimistic that we'll survive whatever the industry throws our way.

Re: CALLED FOR THE JOB!

FL270 seems to have the right idea. With 30 embraers currently slated for growth with United and Delta, if airways was to liquidate, we have 30 with them, so it would be a transfer im sure. If the liqudiation happens after the new growth, if they liqudate at all, then im not sure what will do and I would be worried about possible furloughs for new hires.

Re: CALLED FOR THE JOB!

I dont know for a 100% fact its true, but ive heard at chataqua they have first officers upgrade to captain in as little as 18 months. Thats just awesome, i think i might try for there one day because of that reason. Although, beggers cant be choosers

Re: CALLED FOR THE JOB!

It's Chautauqua. Please try to spell the company name correctly. If you mis-spell it on a resume, I guarantee your CV will find its way to the trash. </pet peeve>

Upgrade estimates are just that ... estimates. The airline with short upgrades today may be the one with very long ones tomorrow. Doug will tell you about Delta guys only a class or two senior to him that were upgrading in the 737 in the pre-9/11 days who have long since been displaced ... and now Delta has 1060 pilots (I believe that's the current number) on furlough.

A friend of mine was hired in March 2001 at CHQ and upgraded a few months ago, in a little less than three years with the company. With current growth projections upgrades will probably come pretty quickly for those of us getting hired now or in the past several months. Remember that seniority is the key to everything, and there are only two ways to move up the list ... get more guys underneath you (hiring) or get fewer guys above you (retirements/departures to majors/etc.). If one of those things isn't happening, there is no movement.

Upgrade is important, but it is by no means the only reason to choose a particular company. Do your research and know as much as you can about any company you think you'd like to work for.
