Any one see this? I love how they say you need 1500 hours to fly commercially. I wish the news would get their facts straight.

Well, to hold an ATP, you do. And to operate as PIC in the 121 world, you must hold an ATP. So they do have their facts correct, from a certain point of view.

Like the truth is any better! Wait'll they find out that the regionals have been hiring 250 hr wonders....

Yah i know that 121 and 135 have higher pic minimums for PIC but, I think they should of said to be a captain you need 1500 hours. It makes it sound like to be the FO you need 1500 hours. To be SIC all you need is a commercial rating and a type rating right? So theoretically you could have as few as 250 hours.

Did they say how many hours the FO had?

About 1600 when hired. I think over 800 in type. So at least 2400 total, somewhere around there.

I believe the CA said during the flight that he had about 600 when he was hired on with Colgan.

You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depends greatly on our own point of view.

I just thought the piece on the buffalo crash was not very good for the airlines. They basically said that regional airline pilots are not as experienced as those in the majors (well of course they are not).

That was just crazy listening to the read-back of the CVR script though. I was shocked. Reminds me of the G4 crash in Aspen how they were, at one point, casually talking about not doing the thing they were right about to do. Just creepy.

I hope they did not read the last line of the transcript. That was the one that really did me in... News agencies can leave that one bit out and nothing would change.

Well the FO said the "C" word.

I don't ever want to hear that CVR, I pity the people who had to listen to it. This type of thing would chill your bones.

For all your complaining about the media, you guys need them if anything is ever going to get better for you. If you had real unions, they would have launched a PR campaign to bring this to light years ago.

Yah that was sad! Makes you realize that although being a pilot fun, there is a lot of responsibility.

I just caught to bits and pieces they played on the news.
