i broke my dominant arm today. as a 121 fo, i assume i'm grounded so long as i'm in a cast. is this correct?

Sorry...but, yep, you're out for a few months.

i snapped my humerus back in april while sweeping the snow off the wings of a plane. the ladder fell.

at least i was at work.

i couldn't get back to flying for two months...it really sucked.

what bone(s) did you break?

[disclaimer] i ain't no doctor [/disclaimer]

It depends on where the fracture is, what yout limitation of movement is and how it is immobilized. For most fractures, the immobilization from the cast will be enough to limit your functional ability to safely operate the aircraft. So the stock answer is YES but more info would be helpful. You can PM if you are more comfortable doing so.

I fractured the radius halfway through just above the wrist. I,m in a splint of some kind (started w an s I think) for 5 days. Then I get it checked and permanently cast. The splint is above the elbow, so I assume the cast will also be so. I pretty much know it's not safe but I want to hear it from a doc if I'm not going to be allowed to fly. I may need therapy to deal w the depression!

If the cast includes the elbow and the wrist (which it will) you cannot fly because you can't operate all of the required controls. As soon as you are out of the cast and the doc has released you to return to work you can fly. Be sure you have an adequate range of motion of the elbow and the strength to handle any emergencies though.

Cast will probably be on 4-6 weeks. Plan on at least 1 week to get your arm back to feeling good enough to do everything you want in a plane.

You can work on your next written while sitting.:)

Arn't you with SkyW? I thought there was another SkyW pilot broke a leg or foot some time ago. That blows chunks good luck on a speedy recovery.
