British Glider Video <- A must see

I don't think they were on IFR flight plans either...very scary seeing them in and out of the clouds, since they don't necessarily have a transponder, so even ATC couldn't warn you of them. At least most powered a/c have a transponder, so hopefully ATC sees them, and tells you about them.

It amazes me what people are willing to tape themselves doing nowadays, and then have the nads to put it on the web.

Remember this is BRITAIN, cloud flying is legal over there for gliders. Certain procedures must be followed however.

When it comes to glider flying/racing they are somewhat crazy, espacially the juniors. This is some stuff you would never see here in the US.

Although my flying in England is minimal, I am not sure it is - just being a nation covered by clouds, when they say clear of clouds, they clear them by inches!

The glider pilots in the UK seem to like playing hide and seek with the clouds - I guess there is thermal activity around there. It really is incredibly dangerous, as they have no lights, transponder, and minimal ATC communication and they are so BLOODY DIFFICULT TO SEE. Any suggestion of them requiring any visual cues is immediately thrown in the, it is too heavy, we have no power quickly followed by we train all our pilots to constantly be on the look out for traffic and we can see a light aircraft from miles away. THE REASON YOU SEE US, IS WE HAVE LIGHTS AND NOT FLYING ERATICALLY IN THE CLOUDS - THE SAME COURTESY WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

But what really gets me about glider pilots - is they all carry parachutes - taking about taking care of yourself and screwing the rest of the world.
