TOLAR, Texas -- A single-engine plane crash in Hood County killed a flight instructor and two brothers from India, officials said Wednesday. The three men had flown from Arlington to Stephenville to eat at a barbecue restaurant and were returning to Arlington when the plane crashed in a field Tuesday night, said Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Dub Gillum. Two of the men were pronounced dead at the scene near Tolar, 45 miles southwest of Fort Worth, and another died later at a hospital, he said.Gillum identified the victims as Casey Brinegar of Arlington, 26, a licensed pilot and flight instructor; his roommate Kartik Kalaichelvan, 22, a native of India who had been attending an Arlington flight school; and Pratik Kalaichelvan, 19, who was visiting his brother from India.Authorities were trying to determine who was flying the plane and what caused the crash, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford. The National Transportation Safety Board also was investigating. The four-seat Beechcraft Bonanza was registered to Brinegar's father, according to the FAA.

Further reading indicates that Casey was an instructor over at Skymates. That sucks...

Casey was my roommate when I was training down there. He was a great guy and a great friend. He will truly be missed. Sad day for all who knew him.

I am sorry to hear it. Has anyone noticed that it's never the s that kill themselves in airplanes? Doesn't seem right, does it?

Casey was my coworker and friend for nearly 4 years. They went to Hard 8 to get some BBQ and never made it back. He made that trip hundreds of times over the years. Kartik had more passion for aviation than anyone I have ever known. RIP

I met Pratik almost 2 or 3 weeks ago. Really good kid. Kartik became an instructor earlier this spring. He had a very bright future ahead of him. And Morgan is right, he had more enthusiasm for aviation then anyone I have ever met.

Casey was a natural leader. He was the life of the party. Some of my favorite experiences at Skymates is when Casey is involved.

They were exceptional human beings. People to look up to and be admired. One of my worst days ever.

Not to detract from the loss, but I won't be able to eat at that Hard Eight anymore. There just won't be anyway to really enjoy it anymore. I am sorry for the JC members this impacts. Just goes to show that JC community is a pretty large one. Maybe people will stop bickering for a little bit and think about what they have today and what could be taken from you in a second.

I am in the same boat.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked instead that a donation be made to the Casey Brinegar Memorial Fund which will be at Bank of Siloam Springs (479-524-4444). More details to follow.
