Boeing discussing possible 797 concept

That's all fine and dandy, but then what? They'll be out of numbers. What's next? the 7107? 7117? Or maybe 808, 818, 828, etc

"Sized between the largest single-aisle 737 and the smallest twin-aisle 787 Dreamliner, it’s an idea Boeing broached publicly at the 2015 Paris Air Show."

I must admit, I was really hoping this would be a 757 fuselage with new engines, but it sounds much more like a newer 767-200 geared towards LCCs.

They need a design that is scaleable. Many car manufacturers are going this route. They need a narrowbody and a widebody platform with the ability to scale up and down in size both fuselage and wing. Just two type ratings. Or heck make it like the 757 and 767, a single type with differences. Use the same parts for all.

If they did this they would smoke Airbus (as long as it was efficient).

Makes sense, I guess. It'll replace the longer mission 757s on the bottom end and the 767-300 on the top end. Probably be a perfect plane for the Hawaiians and the Norwegians of the world.
