JUst wondering what you guys liked least about your flight school? The schedules, the instructor, the actual flight time, etc...

Re: Biggest FBO Complaint

You might want to change the name of this thread to "Biggest Flight School Complaint"... I came here expecting to see complaints about FBO's, not Flight Schools...

But... Since you asked... My biggest FBO complaints are:

1. Parking you on the "Back 40"
2. Taking forever to bring coffee and ice to the plane
3. Not answering the radio when you call "in-range"
4. Overpriced ramp fees
5. No or poorly maintained crew cars
6. Pilot lounge that is in total disrepair
7. Rude staff
8. Fuel price gouging ($4.06/gal Jet-A at KTEB)

Hope this helps...

I've personally seen items 4, 7, and 8 at many FBOs. Item 6, I've noticed here and there. Item 1 is especially true if, for example, you pull into Signature at KLAS in a Cessna... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Tony, I just happened to read that article last night.....funny, but oh so true.

My biggest flight school complaint is when a flight instructor forgets that the student is the center of attention, not the other way around. Students don't go out of their way to please instructors - instructors are supposed to go out of their way to satisfy students. If an instructors finds that difficult to do for a particular student for a particular reason, that instructor should have that student find another instructor.

My biggest FBO complaint....where do I start!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Fuel gouging and stupid ramp fees. Signature is the worst, but there are plenty of others. Really, a $70 handling charge for a 172 that drops off a passenger? They justify it by saying that it helps them cover their costs, but then why doesn't the other FBO on the firld charge it?

Another problem - rude/unprofessional staff. If I taxi onto the ramp in a Skyhawk, I deserve the same amount of respect and service as the guy in the Falcon that rolls in behind me. A Skyhawk driver needing a "quick turn" is just as important as the jet driver. So, why must I wait for him when I was first?

I still remember every FBO that has treated me like crap....they'll lose alot of my business when I'm burning Kerosene!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You'e said it well. I would put your # 6 at the top of my list, crappy FBO/Pilot lounges WITHOUT internet hook ups. Top that off with a 1960's vintage couch that smells like Jet-A. I have left one FBO and taxied to another just because of poor facilities.

As far as Signature goes ... well I can't tell you my real feelings as this is a family friendly site ... but I did tell one CSR at a Signature that they ought to be wearing eye patches because they are a bunch of Pirates. Highly unreasonable ramp fees get my goat, worse yet is when they charge you the fee to drop off a passenger and then when you come back at the end of the day to pick them up again ... WAM ... another ramp fee and I didn't spend more than 15min. total time on thier ramp.

Who started this anyways ...roshjohna ... get me going and all flustered.

Makes you wonder if it's flame bait, eh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Signature is a little pricey and all but they’ve always treated me and the c172 like royalty at PSP and SBA. Lol, if I didn’t know better I would of thought they worked for tips or something.

My complaint with the flight schools would be that they don't always call you when the plane is down, even though they have your phone number right in front of them. Or sometimes they bump you to a different plane without nofifying you first. Hey, I'll admit it, I like some planes better than others.

My complaint with training is the instructor who is in the world's biggest hurry. The one that has back to back students, one after the other. The one that never has time to do a debrief to let you know why you were struggling in the air today, what you can work on, and what to expect next time.

Yea, same here, I have a preference to NOT fly the plane that shot oil all over the windscreen on landing and apparently has a habit of doin this /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/insane.gif

True story by the way, didn't realize the seriousness of the incident till I got home and thought about what had actually just happened.

Yeah, in Boston the other day, Jet was almost 5 bucks a gallon. Absolute robbery. But yes, Signature is the arch enemy.

Re: Biggest FBO Complaint

For those who haven't been Million Air before, I would HIGHLY suggust it. John and I used them a couple of times when we flew into BKL and they treated us like royalty even though we were in an Arrow. Their pilot lounge is pristine, had like 8 HUGE lazyboys and a big screen TV. The staff was really friendly and very accomodating. I'm not sure on their prices but i think it was pretty resonable.

Re: Biggest FBO Complaint

I hat it when students make changes in your schedule when you are not there, but the dispatcher never calls to let you know about it. Then they call you up and ask you why you are not there and that the student is waiting! That pisses me off.....

Yeah, this drives me nuts. If the plane is down, then call me. The reason I left the place I used to go to is because they had me drag my butt out on a 30 mile trip only to find that the plane I had reserved was down. That pissed me off big time!

I second that, when I flew into BKL the folks at Million Air were very pleasant and would do anything for us even though we pulled up in a Skyhawk just before a few jets.

Re: Biggest FBO Complaint

Back in my freight days Singature was the worst for many reasons. Signature needs to be shut down. If you have ever noticed, they try to be the only FBO on the field and oppose new FBO's coming onto the field...

As far as flight schools go is all the BS they tell you. All the 141 schools charge and arm and a leg then lead you to believe you will be flying for an airline upon graduation...

I really don't have too much negative to say about my school, though I haven't been around it beyond my CFI/CFII/MEI training. Unlike ERAU, you schedule your instructor, instead of the other way around. My instructor is a good guy, but very business-like in the cockpit (i.e. no going up and having a good ol' time), and is very intense on harping on weak areas. But, if that really bothered me, I'd switch instructors. *shrugs*

Million Air is definetly a great group of people. One time we went to BKL in an Archer with me, Emily and her cousin (who looks like a fridge, and can eat like one too). It was a hot day, and needless to say climb performance was poopy on the way out (we left with full tanks). So I elected to not put any more gas in the tanks on the way back. But the deal was that Million Air would get rid of the ramp fee if I bought gas. So I bought one gallon of gas and paid $2.80 for that instead of a $35 ramp fee. I appologized for it and they said it was fine, they make their money on jets and they were not going to lie about it, so there was no reason to screw us. I like that.
