Best yoke and pedal for MS Flight Sim..?

Shiftace

s***posting with decency. trolling with integrity.
I posted another thread about getting the Instrument rating in a cost effective way. Many great replies (as always!) - but the one thing that most people mentioned was to get on MS Flight Sim. I already have the CD for that - but do not have a good yoke and pedal gizmo yet.

Any recommendations from the members here as to what brand to buy? Also any good online retailers for this... and more importantly what should one expect to pay?

All the help is appreciated!

Cheers!

I have this:
http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-Flight-Three-Lever-Throttle-PZ44/dp/B000TCD1UK

and this:
http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-Pro-Flight-Rudder-Pedals/dp/B000H67DDY

I have been very happy with both.

Not quite as necessary as the Saitek controls, but I also strongly recommend a motion tracking device like TrackIR. It greatly enhances the experience.

Cool! I am looking at the PZ44 - does that have a trim wheel? Seems like a good buy for the money.

I definitely recommend it. There is no trim wheel, but there are "trim switches" on the yoke itself. I'm not sure if that's what you were asking.

If you're a fan of actually having a yoke and pedal then go for it, but honestly it's more of a distraction, all you need is a joystick. If you're using MS Flight Sim as an aid for instrument training, the procedures and instruments are what you're focusing on, not flying the plane with an 'accurate' pedal and yoke setup. I know a few people that spent a bunch of money on yokes and stuff only to have them collect dust in the end. I used flight sim a lot growing up, and it really did help with my IFR training. You want to focus on the instruments and what they're doing vs trying to fly the plane. Flight sim really is a great tool though for those working on their IFR.

I have always heard that the Saitek stuff was really good quality. As Mark said though, spending a bunch of money on a yoke and pedals isn't really important. A joystick would be much cheaper and still get the job done, after all you are flying to learn to fly the procedures well and not necessarily simulate the actual controls.

I have the CH Yoke and Pedals I'd be willing to part with for the cost of shipping. They haven't been used in about 4 years, but they worked when I unplugged them for the last time. PM me if you're interested.

PS, I'm only offering this because your user name is so freaking awesome.

I tried the joystick one time - many years ago. That was long before I considered flight training. Did not enjoy the joystick. Was "Saitek" or maybe a generic brand purchased from Fleabay.

I will try the CH yoke from TFaudree_ERAU! Woo Hoo!

I've used the CH Yoke and Pedals with MSFS for some of my instrument training and was perfectly happy with them, considering it was a whole lot cheaper than renting a sim or an actual aircraft to practice a bunch of the approaches.
