Best place to sell an airplane

There are so many places to sell airplanes. Which one is the best. I'm likely going to leave a real paying job for a flight instructing job and will no longer be able/or need to fly my plane and want to sell it.

And if you are looking I have an XP Hawk with 1800 hours total since new and I'm the 3rd owner. Engine has 400 hours SMOH and a 3 year old paint job.

1. Local, word of mouth
2. Type club web site classifieds (Cessna owners site e.g.)
3. barnstormers.com
4. trade-a-plane
5. Bulletin board at local FBO's

Buyers usually will determine the make & model according to their mission if first time buyers, or are involved with the type if a previous owner.

It is always best to advertise locally first.

But there are also plenty of people like me that can't get enough of barnstormers.com and tradeaplane.

All of the previously mentioned are good. I've heard of very, very quick sales on barnstomers.com. Another place, if you are a member, is the AOPA forums. They seem to sell airplanes well over there. Beyond that, you could look into controller, ASO.com, and various other websites.

Found my first one on barnstormers, and it was local. Now I'm hooked into a whole network of sources for planes and parts, imagine my next one will be from someone I know or someone finds one for me. Word of mouth is huge.

Barnstormers gets action quickly from serious buyers.

Tradeaplane generates a lot of traffic and is the airplane tire kickers heaven but can sometimes sell a plane quickly.

Word of mouth tends to be the quickest way to sell a plane.
