Best CFI apps ?

This looks very, very cool, however it doesn't seem to take advantage of the high resolutions of the Retina screens. But then it's free for CFI's :D....
 
Are these teaching aids you are talking about? How much are paper charts, plotters, and E6B's (not electronic) still used in flight training? If any?

Presentation maybe, but functionally here are some things I'd like to have:
  • Split screen mode (and no, I don't care about that software attitude indicator, I want approach plates and the chart side by side).
  • Timers, preferably automatic, I'd like the flight timer to start automatically when I'm on a takeoff roll, and the approach timer to start at FAF. Fuel timer would be nice to have too, but I understand it has to be manual.
  • I like how in WingX I can automatically see the airspaces with altitudes at my present position at any time. In FF I can only see airports and fixes for some reason.
  • The crosshairs, I put it anywhere on the chart and immediately see distance and bearing
  • Automatic night mode
  • Scratchpad overlay on the chart
  • Minor things like E6B, FAR/AIM, N-Number lookup, not a big deal but nice to have. Unlike that post to Twitter button that FF devs are so proud of.
I could probably come up with a few more, but it's been a while since I've used the ForeFlight. OTOH it's been a while since I've used the ForeFlight, chances are some of those got improved or implemented.

EDIT: just launched the FF and oh how could I forget about this one: that jerky chart panning, driving me nuts

I think you just don't know how to use ForeFlight. You talked about split screen. You can put the approach chart right on the sectional/ifr chart that you have displayed. In foreflight depending on if your using just the sectional or aeronautical charts as well, always has the altitudes of all the depicted airspaces. In foreflight if you use two fingers you're can get distance, bearing, fuel burn and time to reach any point you put your finger on. Foreflight has a auto dimmer for night. You can write on any chart in foreflight. I draw my taxi route at busy airports all the time. Foreflight has the far/aim plus a ton of other reference documents available in the document pad. If you search a N number in the search box you get all the FAA info plus a link to see all its flight aware data.

As @Inverted25 point out a lot of your list has been implemented in ForeFlight.

No, more like practical, flying stuff. I believe none, but it's always good to carry paper sectional and an IAP for your home base in your flight bag no ?
