Best Airline Miles Credit Card

I want to start paying for a few things... gas, groceries etc. using a credit card to earn some miles and paying off the balance monthly. What's the best card? I'm in the NW and fly Alaska occasionally however I'm guessing their miles and card are specific to them. Is the 5 Star Alliance whatever the way to go? I don't need to include Alaska but would like a good dollar to mile conversion rate and don't want to lose my mileage credit at the end of the year. thanks

I'd go with whichever airline you use or would like to use. I'm not familiar with the AS Visa, but for the most part the ones I've seen are all fairly similar--except DL which uses Amex.

If you're planning on using the miles to travel to Sydney, NW, CO, DL wouldn't do you much good as the routings there are on convoluted and on partner airlines. However, if, for example, you want to travel to AMS, GUM, or ATL, the former cards would probably give you more options than, say, UA.

I've got a NW Worldperks Visa and I'm pretty happy with it. Right now they're giving 10,000 bonus miles to sign up.

I have the United College plus card. I like it because there is no annual fee. But you only get one mile for every two dollars you spend. But its better than nothing. From what I have seen all the other cards have an annual fee. I hate fees!

USAirways has a card that gives you one mile for every dollar. Though there is an annual fee.

Unless you're using it ALOT - like as a corporate card - it's probably not worth getting one. Most of them have annual fees and by the time you spend the $25,000 it takes to get a free ticket, the annual fees will outweigh the cost of the ticket. If you're going to pay a fee, might as well go for a credit card that has some other more useful extras. Example .... my American Express. It's a business card, but still, for the $250 a year, I get one point for every dollar and can use the points for everything from merchandise to airline tickets. It also includes car rental insurance, airline ticket cancelation insurance, and free traveler's checks among other things.

I work for Chase/Bank One and we have a Continental Airlines co-branded card.

Comes in either VISA or MasterCard designation.

I do believe there is an annual fee.

I fly Delta alot so thinking seriously bout getting the American Express Delta Airlines Skymiles card.

I use DL's AMEX card - it is a good card. I call every year to and say I am thinking about closing my account because the annual fee is way too high. So far they have waived the fee every year except for the first. I use the card for everything and do not carry a balance - that is the only way you can make the system work to your advantage!

Do as Ramsey says.....call every year and threaten or say you will end your account and they will waive it. Its very simple. I am 22 and have done it succesfully twice now.

I am a DAL Amex card carrier...it seems they keep upping the miles though for free trips.

For some carrier like United your miles will expire in you dont have any account activity for two years. Thats why I got the United Visa, it keeps all the miles I earned by flying from expiring. I got the college card so there is no annual fee. If for no other reason then to keep my miles from expiring, I think its a good deal.

I've got an Icelandair MasterCard. Its pretty good one mile for one dollar. Some cards are one mile for 2 dollars.
