Been to Jo-burg?

Well I may have a chance to spend a couple of weeks in Johannesburg while in ticketing training. Its about 2 weeks long, 9-5 with the weekend off. Right now my course is going to be in October. Don't know much about JOH so if anyone knows of what there is to do, night life, pointers or tips- i'm all ears.

My dad used to live in Jo-berg - it is now very dangerous!! If you can go down to Durban, or Cape Town they are slightly more touristy, but Jo-berg is not safe!

Yes, South Africa.

Virgin flys to JOH and is having a ticketing class there in Oct. I was asked if i was interested in going. Just trying to figure out if its relatively safe, with something to do and see after 5pm and on the weekend.

It's not that bad. Yes, there are areas you don't want to venture into, but you are still not likely to get killed, raped, or carjacked (well, this one, maybe). If your training is in JNB, I can see staying there, but otherwise get to CPT or Durban. You'll have a much better time.

Too bad its winter, though. The exchange rate is still descent, although not nearly as good as it used to be. Have fun!

I guess the other option is to decline and do the training in London. Of course, there's always the chance the next course will be in Norwalk, CT--aka Snore-walk.

How possible is it to get from JNB to Capetown on a weekend. I'd like to go and don't mind some risk...but how much is too much? Its a tough choice.

I would go to London - lots of partying, a great city.

A flight from Jo-Berg to Cape Town like going from LAX to SFO, so it is not that intense.

I would like london too-It'd be my luck though that I would be sent to Norwalk. My ramp training was done at JFK instead of in London.
