Durn near busted a firefighting TFR today; in checking the GPS track, I stayed clear of it, luckily--but came within a half mile...

FFU?

That one has been screwing with my CFII ride prep all week, hard to shoot an approach when half of it is inside a TFR.

Hope its canceled by tuesday

Those Notams have been a pain this last week. (Pretty sure that the PG one is gone now, haven't checked.) The mercer canyon one I think was down to only 3 nm radius, but still messed with all the IFR departures and Arrivals to KPVU.

BTW, was that Diamond Training Center's red and white twinstar I saw at PVU the other day? Looked pretty sharp. It's funny how at UVSC that place is like hush hush.....LOL Looks like they have a pretty good program starting up. What do they pay their instructors!?!:nana2:

Sounds like a bunch of Utah folks here? I remember as a little boy when my dad took me to KPVU, and as a small boy, watched the Blue Angels as they literally rocked my world. That day provided all the inspiration I needed to join the U.S.Navy later in life to do my own Blue Angel impressions. My dad worked at the local steel mill (now gone) and I attended Orem High when I could fit it into my otherwise busy schedule - education was not high on my list back then...
Utah county has grown so much that I don't even recognize it anymore. When flying into KSLC on the Spane arrival, I always look down at Provo municipal and smile as I fondly remember my younger days. Who knew that all these years later I would be flying overhead my old house having accomplished my childhood dream of becoming an airline pilot.

I soloed at KPVU back in '86 myself. Quite a few U-tards on the board, you'll have to join us for a meet-n-greet-n-eat sometime!

That's pretty cool. My uncle took me to an airshow at PVU (Blue Angels I think, all I remember was the blue and yellow jets...) when I was like 3 or 4. It's one of my earliest memories. I wonder if it was the same airshow? That would be pretty cool if it was.

Provo sure has changed a lot, even since '94 when I soloed there, and even more since they got the tower. I enjoy flying out of PVU though, my favorite is when the controller gives you a straight in for 36 direct from the practice areas out by west mountain.

That would be an awesome coincidence but I am guessing that you are much younger that me. I am guessing that it would of been around 1970, maybe late 60s that I saw them perform. The Blues were flying F4s and I remember vividly how much noise they made. I actually soloed at SLC #2 airport in 1978 in N66187 - a trusty C-150. Great memories...

Probably not the same then, but close! I was born in '76. My dad and my grandpa both worked at Geneva Steel though, and my parents went to Orem High, I acutally went to Mountain View myself....small world though. You should definitley come to a meet and greet if you are ever around for one.:)

Mercer Canyon was at 3 nm then increased to 5, at least it was yesterday.

Wasn't our Twin Star, ours has been inop for almost three months, after the gear actuator plate separated from the spar. Long story short Diamond will be trucking it to Canada and giving us a new one, but the big question is when, they can't give us a firm date. Our second Twin Star might be here before the first one is replaced.

I love working for DFC, Dr. Smart knows what he is doing and knows it well.
The program is seriously all about the student, as it should be.

It is hilarious how hush hush it is at UVSC, I walked into there the other day with my DFC shirt on and got plenty of stares and mystified looks. They were probably wondering if I was allowed to wear that on the sacred ground.

I have a lot of respect for Dr. Smart. He is actually the guy that got me involved in aviation. My first flight in my logbook is with him in 1993. He took me flying out of Spanish Fork in a 172, he was just starting the UVSC program back then. Pretty cool.

Its impossible to not be excited about what you are doing when you are around the guy.
