Banned Rx Drugs

Doc, I didn't want to bring up any posts from the dead, so I chose to just start a new one.

I am going to bring up a scenario, say you take Chantix, would you never be able to fly, or would you only not be able to fly while you are taking Chantix? I have tried everything to quit, gum, patches, cold turkey etc etc and was put onto Chantix by some friends that have quit, any advice would be appreciated.

You cannot take Chantix while you fly and you should probably be off it for several weeks before you go back to flying. It has some side effects that are significant.

I have seen in several posts that Chantix is not approved for pilots. Is it the same for ATC?

It is not approved for ATC either.

Are there any drugs that are used to quit smoking that are approved? What about the psychologists that supposedly "hypnotize" you to quit? A friend of mine did it and has been tobacco free for 5 years now.

Hypnosis is OK. There are no approived drugs other than the nicotine patch or gum.
