AW flight evac\'d at PHX...

people at my office are inquiring.. anyone know anything about flight 44 being evac'd and on cargo tarmac for suspicious package?

apparently, heading to regean nat'l...

TSA not doing their part again??

here's the funny thing.. looking at AW website shows the flight left at 8:46 (on time) and is in the air.... doh! you'd think they'd be on top of arrival/delay thing...

Fox News was reporting that a pop can with a wire coming out of it may have been found on board the aircraft. That's about all they know so far... and the story will probably change!

they're saying now that it was an MP3 player wrapped around a coke can that someone was throwing away.. innocent mistake apparently...

America West plane evacuated after suspicious item found


PHOENIX (AP) -- More than 100 people were evacuated from an America West Airlines flight here Wednesday morning after a passenger spotted a suspicious device, an airport spokeswoman said.

The item turned out to be a music player wrapped around a soda can, said Sky Harbor International Airport spokeswoman Deborah Ostreicher.

It was found in a seat-back by a passenger as Flight 44 to Washington, D.C., was taxiing out to the runway for takeoff.

Officials investigating the incident concluded the item was not dangerous. But before it was determined what had been found, the pilot taxied to the airport's cargo area, where the 117 passengers and five crew members got off and were bused to a terminal.

A police bomb squad was then called in to check the plane. All the luggage also was taken off the plane and was rechecked.

At no point during the investigation did airport officials stop or alter any other flights, Ostreicher said.

"It just looked suspicious, which is why we always take the precautions we do," she said.

Sounds like the clean up crew missed that one. Maybe I'm just curious, but I think I would have taken a closer look before I cried wolf. People are paranoid, and people are stupid. Put together not a very promising lot you humans.

It's all a conspiracy by the RIAA. First they sue us, then they tell people that MP3 players can be used by terrorists. So we'll all lose our MP3 players in airports.
