Aviationweather.gov new site

Hmm, I'll give it a chance. It's got some nice bits, but I can't find a lot of the stuff I normally use, and I've stumbled on some bugs.

This seems very 2002ish. I could build this website.

Would be nice to see the government spend some money on a good website and app for aviation weather.

In the end I haven't really used it much since I found out their scaling on their radar is way off. Nothing like flying directly through an area of yellow and red (per aviationweather.gov) with no storms in sight. Took a look at intellicast (WSI) and found that they only showed dark green returns.

Intellicast radar is way better.

I agree. I turned to weather underground and a couple different radar apps. NOAAs always seemed to over shade intensity by around two levels. Looked like mod-sever red on there and go flying and see light drizzle or rain no turb.

I dunno. Looks different, but seems a bit more efficient once you figure out where stuff is. Seems like less clicking back and forth for the stuff you want.

After messing around on the newly designed website, I'm starting to really like some of the new quirks. For example, I like how on the homepage, icing/turbulence AIRMETs are now color coded in terms of severity.

I think a lot of the graphics look better as well. Just my opinion though.

The http://aawu.arh.noaa.gov site is a lot better, and dedicated to Alaska. You should take a look at it.
Hmmm. Odd considering Alaska's own personal weather site http://aawu.arh.noaa.gov/ is actually pretty decent
I love that site. They have done a few changes over years, but they always seem to be for the better.

People resist change. It's a lot like the widespread moaning and complaints whenever Facebook changes a layout. Then, everyone adapts.

Let's be honest. The old page did not have a good layout. We just knew our way around it. This one looks alright so far. It may even be a bit more intuitive.

It's incredibly slow for me and locks up when I try to get winds at a particular flight level. Not a fan so far. Grrrrrr!

I like that you can click on the different reports on the home page and get the airport ID and the METAR without having to specifically look it up. I also like how you can zoom in and get a broad view of how the weather is in a given region. much better than the last site. I'll definitely have to play around with it the next few days!
