Aviation Tattoos

Hey, I know this is an odd subject, and this is the best place to put it, but how many of you have a tattoo related to aviation? Where do you have it? What is the tattoo? Any pictures of it? If you're not comfortable answering, that is cool, or if you want to send me a PM. I am just wondering because I want to get a tattoo, but I'm not sure what I want to get. I have thought of something simple, like a cross to express my Christian faith, but some people have suggested getting something related to aviation. Any ideas or suggestions?

Get a Cessna 172 with flames! j/k

I'll assume this is your first tattoo, correct me if I'm wrong.

I think aviation tattoos are awsome if done correctly. Just like any other tattoo, don't go out and get one just for the heck of it cause more than likely you'll end up regretting it. Take your time, come up with several ideas, take your time, make sure its meaningful, take your time, research photos and paintings, take your time, visit several shops that have good references, take your time, take so more time and if you think you've waited long enough (at least a year) and your still satisfied with the idea, go for it! Not sure if you noticed but I highly emphasize on taking your time. There is really no excuse to rush and get a tattoo, unless of course your drunk, its spring break, and you think you've found the woman of your dreams :p.

As for the location, try to stay away from the forearms and neck area unless you have a record deal and looking proffesional is not part of the act. Some may say that its not automatic disqualification but when you go to an interview were you'll be judged, unfortunately they judge everything including tattoos and body piercings. At the end of the day its there decision wether or not you get hired. Personally I would love to get my right forearm done but I really don't see that happening hear since I live in sunny Florida where short sleeve is almost mandatory.

One last note, crosses, dragons, and clowns are very common. If you want a basic cross thats fine, but if you want it to stand out, try to find one that you like and think of a unique addition such as a different outline or a nice background. The background could consist of something memorable such as a death of a loved one, a life changing experience, or even a great accomplishment that you feel could not be done without god. Those are just some broad ideas so take your time and research as much as possible. Once that needle penetrates theres no turing back.

P.S.
The pain is highly overrated! At first it feels kinda nice but after a while it just feels annoying.

I've never wanted to get a tattoo. They're too permanent for my taste. If I did get one, I would get a simple line drawing of the 172 on the learn to fly sign.

Like this but without the shading.

How about "wings" like the pins pilots wear. I think that'd be hot, if done right. Be sure to keep it in a place that woudl be hidden if you ever wear a uniform. Most airlines frown upon visible tattoos.

My buddy has some wings on his left chest, doesn't really look like what he was going for, looks Native American...he doesn't

I've always thought that the only way I could get on the cover of Airline Pilot Magazine is if I got a tattoo of some ALPA wings on my chest. That's hot.

Or get them much larger across your shoulder blades? :p

When you settle down on a design, dont get it tattooed. Look at it every day for the next 1-3 years, and if it is still something you want, then think about getting the tattoo. Also take the time to research the artist and be prepared to spend the money. Dont go cheap on something permanent.

A friend of mine has a B-2 tattooed on her right shoulder blade. That's the only one I've seen so far that's turned out really well. As for me, none... yet...

My wife got a "henna" tattoo, on our last cruise vacation, just above her ankle. She picked it out, and I thought it was really cool!

Realize it's just a henna tattoo and certainly not the quality of a high end tattoo... but she did say she'd like to get something like this done someday if it was done well.

Needless to say... I dug it! ;)

I thought about having a very small two-blade prop (think WWI fighter) oriented vertically with my certificate number in small numbers paralleling it.

I'm tabling the idea for now for the reasons casey mentioned. I kind of regret the first and only tat that I have and I don't want to make the same mistake.

LOL!

Ok, here is a story for you guys a F/A told me a while back...

The F/A in this story is pretty good looking and gets hit on a lot! She is on an overnight in AUS chillin' by the pool in her bathing suit. Some dude with sunglasses comes over and starts hitting on her. Asking her name, why she is in AUS and what she does for a living. You can probably all guess what this guy was doing for a living. That's right! He was a PILOT on a layover. After she found out that bit of information, she decided to play this guy and when asked what she did for a living, all she could think of was Hot Tub sales (because they were sitting next to the hot tub) and she was in town for a convention. For some reason this pilot believed her and invited her to join him in the hot tub. As they make their way to the hot tub, the guy takes of his shirt and his "aviator" tattoos become visible. 4 stripes tattooed on his shoulder and a set of wings on his left chest. The F/A tried not to laugh and keeps playing him until they part their ways for the night.

Next morning...

F/A is down in the lobby waiting for the rest of the crew, and guess who also shows up at the same time? That's right! Our Pilot friend. I guess the look on his face was priceless when he saw her in her F/A uniform. Guy flew for NetJets;)
