Does anyone know about the aviation programs at Central Missouri State, University of Nebraska at Kearney and any other schools in the midwest.

Ya you betcha...University of North Dakota. And if you haven't found their forum....just scroll up a little bit on the Collegiate Aviation page.

There are quite a few schools in the midwest. From the experiences I have had with CMSU they seem to be a pretty good school. I don't know much about UNK, however I think the Univeristy of Nebraska-Omaha has a smaller program. K-state-Salina, Oklahoma State, South Eastern Oklahoma State (getting more to the south), it also seems like there is one in St Louis but I can't remember the name. Oh and let us not forget Spartan, which is where I am about to graduate from I can't talk bad about the school I am about to graduate from, however I really really really don't recommend it. All of the above listed schools have flight teams and I do recommend checking them out. Good Luck. PS Do you know if they are hiring instructors at aims?

Thanks

Thanks guys for your advice, but yeah aims instructors are getting hired, mostly by great lakes airlines. But there have been a couple who have gone to air wisconsin, american eagle and trans state. And i know there are quite a few former grads that eventually worked up to Frontier.

I would stay away from Spartan, I looked into them a couple years ago, and they kept trying to get me into their aviation mechanic program, when I told them I was only interested in the pilot program. I also have a friend that is leaving them out of frustration, and lack of completion after 3 years with no degree, and no CFI, and a lot of debt.

I've heard that alot about spartan not really sure why but it just seems like many of the people i've talked to here in co and seen what people have said on here that its not recommended.

Both the Owner of the FBO I train at, and my instructor went to Kansas State-Salina, they both say it was great, BEFORE IT BECAME K-STATE!!!

Spartan, I agree steer clear of that place. Make sure they don't get your personal information either, they are relentless with the phone calls, and mail.

I have heard positive things about UND.

Ummmm.........yep! Stay away from Spartan. I have been attending since 2001 and am still there but thankfully about done. The flight training is second-to-none but with all the political BS, weather cancels, Chinese students etc., not a place I would recommend. I am the only one left and the only one to make it this far out of the 31 that started with me on Oct. 28, 2001. I dont know if that makes me dumb, persistent or both, but I do know I would do it differently if I had to do it all over again.

Sometimes, the path among the well tred is a welcome diversion. Rocky Mountain College (my alma mater) has a very well accredited and nationally recognized Aviation Science/variations program. Plenty of flight time and short drives to skiing. Worth the inspection IMHO. www.rocky.edu

I took my private ground school there but was actually a fine arts major...guess I should have rethought the degree process.

University of Dubuque...Dubuque, IA. I go to school there, check us out! I definately recommend it. Let me know if you have any questions.
