They were given the identifier DUH for a reason. :crazy:

I saw in your logbook you're flying good 'ol HY. I thought they were only charging $55/hour wet for that plane? That's what they had posted on the board last time I was there about a month ago.

Treat her good! I got my private in that plane and still come home to fly it once in awhile. :rawk:

BTW.... you might recognize my avatar if you walk around the hangar at TTF at bit.
 
I don't THINK it takes much to get the auto gas certificate. Maybe you should ask you flight school about it. If I was correctly informed it is a minor equipment exchange. We are paying 3.50 per gallon at my FBO in Phoenix. I'm all about the auto gas:bandit:

I definitely agree! The last flight I paid for was over a year ago, and since then, my college flight school had to increase their 172 charge twice. I was paying $113/hr wet, and now they are up to $124/hr wet in only a year. And, since I work for them, I know they are trying to get a better deal for fuel, but right now, we are getting a great deal for fuel through our local FBO. Many students here complain about the price for a 172 and say they can rent one back home for $70/hr. (I tell them to go back home and learn how to fly and get a college education at the same time. :rolleyes:) But I can't figure out how so many FBOs can rent out 172s so cheap with the price of avgas!?!?

Yeah, it's up to $60/hr wet (probably for fuel?) but still can't beat it anywhere else. Currently the engine is off of it (and has been, for like 3 weeks) for overhaul. I was going to try to take it to Oshkosh, but I didn't realize how busy the plane was. I talked to somebody and they said there's no way to take it for 4 days or whatever because it's booked solid all the time and (I'm assuming) they can't justify letting it go for 4 days and only charging $180/day for the plane.

The 172 is still pretty good deal too. I haven't flown it, or looked inside for that matter...but $80/hr for that, especially what they're charging 15 miles south, can't be beat.

I'm sure if they brought 1-2 more 150s and 1-2 172s online at TTF, they would run DUH out of business...or very close.

I recognize the hangar (only been at TTF once, for the checkout), but I haven't seen the plane...whats the tail number? Do you fly into TOL at all?
 
Yea, $60/hour is a sweet deal. You're not gonna find any plane, anywhere else for that cheap probably. Not one operating at a flight school. I've flown the 172 as well and it's a very nice plane. People always want to fly new stuff but that thing is a '78 and it's just as nice as a beat up 2002 or so flight school plane.

They used to run 2-3 150s and 2 172s but it was under the previous owner who didn't do so well in the flight school business. They leased planes instead of buying them outright like the current owner so their prices were a little higher.

The plane is 441PW a Conquest II. He's based at TTF and when I worked there I always washed his plane.

I've flown down to TOL a few times but never stopped in at the FBO. I'm a student at Western Michigan based at BTL. Right now though I'm getting my CFI at Allegan because they've got their Arrow at $129/hour and $36/hour for instruction which is a steal compared to what WMU is charging. Western is being hit hard with fuel prices and I think they now have the fuel surcharge for the Cirrus up to around $25/hour. That's on top of the $140/hour rental rate and $48/hour instruction. I'm not positive though since I haven't flown their in awhile. Luckily, I did most of my Cirrus time when it was still $140/hour flat rate. They started tacking on the fuel surcharges just as I was finishing my Instrument rating around last April.

And everyone gets their hands all up in the air over user fees.

Open your eyes guys, User fees won't kill you. . .fuel and maintenance costs will kill you far before you go broke on user fees.
 
PIE, gotta love it... $6.61. I'm sorry, but that is just absolutely f'ing ridiculous. Way to put students out of their dreams...

Daaaaaang, I get mulit for 160.00 wet.....I guess I'll repost my earlier post\statement as more of a question then........why don't FBO's or in general AVGAS AC owner\operators get the car gas certification to run their planes on the cheap(er) stuff. Does it not make sense\cents?

Again I heard it was easy, but I was wrong one time before.
 
that's in Europe...everything is more expensive in Europe. Norway, Great Britain, France, and every other western european country pays double what we pay for gas in the states. I DON'T CARE WHAT PRICES ARE IN EUROPE!!!

Don't worry, the US will catch up sooner or later. Who would have ever thought a gallon was ever going to hit 4 bucks?

Yeah it blows. 70% of it just taxes...at least $4.00 will seem cheap to me when I get back to the states.

The aeroclub where I fly is looking into that option now. Ever looking at converting to a Thielert so we can use diesel.
